Image information

In conclusion, segmentation reduces the huge amount of image information analysed, without loosing relevant details (defects). This work represents a preliminary decision assistance stage, that will facilitate the expert task in defect detection. 

The 140 KeV photons emitted by Tc are accompanied by few conversion and Auger electrons and no beta-particles which increase the radiation dose without adding to the imaged information, and no gamma- or x-rays of other energies. These other gamma- or x-rays, if substantially lower in energy.

A method to assay all phosphorous-containing metabolites at once is 31P-NMR spectroscopy (see the chapter by Sonnleitner in this volume - the section on NMR), the main limitation being the sensitivity for the very low-concentrated metabolites. NMR should be, in principle, also suitable for obtaining space-resolved (imaging) information [42], however, the technical difficulties have yet to be solved. 

Patterns can be collected with meaningful statistics within fractions of seconds, if strong scatterers are studied, or they can be built up in repetitive measurements if reversible changes are studied. As a consequence, complete one-dimensional or two-dimensional image patterns can be collected in consecutive time intervals or time frames. The image information of each consecutive time frame has to be accumulated in separate memory segments. Thus time is added as another dimension to the one-or two- dimensional position information. 

Semiconductor devices sensitive to infrared radiation in either of the two atmospheric infrared windows can be built, in large numbers, on the surface of a chip. An infrared image focused on the surface of sudi an array can be read off electronically as image information, and this information used to construct a visible-light image on a screen.
