Idea boxes

Some companies utilize the suggestion box or idea box that allows employees to write down their ideas and submit them to management on an individual and confidential basis. This type of communication mechanism has been extremely successful for many companies however, the suggestion box can become stale and sit unused if appropriate feedback from management is not provided. 

In fact, microwaves do not provide a universal solution to every process but in particular should be considered for those processes in which treated materials must be of high quality, so that the cost of microwave processing can be justified. Magnetron efficiencies are between 50 and 72% for 2.45 GHz compared to 80 and 87% for high power (922 or 915 MHz). Thus, the study of efficiency should also include a detailed analysis of a conventional process, of which the user often has a very vague idea (Box 4). ... 

In order to illustrate these ideas, consider the simplest case of a It/ box containing only L = 2 = 8 cells (in C numeration starts always with 0) and with periodic boundary conditions ... 

Both of these problems can be solved by the introduction of a periodic box I can explain this idea by Figure 2.4, which shows a much smaller two-dimensional box than the one discussed above. 

The idea is to embed the molecule of interest in a solvent box as shown in Figure 15.1 (aspirin in water). After this MM, MD or MC calculations can be made. A periodic box should be added as needed.

A further option is to forget about simulating the flow and the processes in the whole vessel and to zoom into local processes by carrying out a DNS for a small box. The idea is to focus on the flow and transport phenomena within such a small box, such as mass transport and chemical reactions in or around a few eddies or bubbles, or the hydrodynamic interaction of a limited number of bubbles, drops, and particles including their readiness to collisions and coalescence. Examples of such detailed studies by means of DNS are due to Ten Cate et al. (2004) and Derksen (2006b). 

In the early days, see, e.g., Bakker and Van den Akker (1994a), a black box representing the impeller swept volume was often used in RANS simulations, with boundary conditions in the outflow of the impeller which were derived from experimental data. The idea behind this approach was that such nearimpeller data are hardly affected by the rest of the vessel and therefore could be used throughout. Generally, this is not the case of course. Furthermore, this approach necessitates the availability of accurate experimental data, not only...

The box marked C ellfor example, represents the idea that a spreadsheet has a number of addressable units that can be displayed. It doesn t say how they get displayed, and it doesn t say that if you look inside the program code you ll necessarily find a class called C elllf the designer is interested in performance, some other internal structure might be thought more efficient. On the other hand, if the designer is interested in maintainability, using a structure that follows this model would be helpful to whoever will do the updates. 

This checklist may be used to stimulate the thinking of inherent safety review and process hazard analysis teams, and any other individuals or groups working on process improvements. It is intended to promote "blue-sky" or "out-of the-box" thinking, and to generate ideas that might be usable in an existing facility or a "plant of the future" concept.

Sometimes I put each story starter on an index card and ask each student to pick one out of a box. I also have two students write a story as a team. In this way, slower students can learn from their partners as they exchange ideas and thereby not be solely responsible for the entire assignment.
