Hydrogen peroxide carbamide

Urea peroxohydrate is made commercially by Solvay Deutschland, Degussa (Germany), and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical. It is known commercially as urea hydrogen peroxide, hydrogen peroxide carbamide, Exterol, Hydroperit, Hydroperit, Hyperol, Orti2on, Percarbamid, Percarbamide, Perhydrit, Perhydrol-Urea, Thenardol, and UHP. In 1994 the U.K. price was J7—8/kg ( 10—12/kg). World production in 1993 was several hundred metric t. [Pg.97]

Urea has the chemical formula (NH2)2CO and is also known by its older name carbamide. Urea is manufactured industrially from ammonia (NH ) and carbon dioxide (C02) and is used mainly as a fertilizer. It is also added to animal feeds to increase their nitrogen content, and is used to make resins, plastics, and pharmaceuticals. Urea peroxide is simply a combination of urea and hydrogen peroxide and as such is a useable source of this latter chemical in the form of a stable white crystalline solid. [Pg.216]

Stained teeth. Carbamide peroxide is the active ingredient in most tooth-whitening products, and it works by releasing hydrogen peroxide, which in turn yields hydroxyl free radicals, which can break down colored molecules. [Pg.11]

Hydrogen peroxide itself is a liquid and difficult to apply to teeth, but when it s mixed with tuea it forms a gel of carbamide peroxide that can easily be painted on teeth, placed into trays fitted to the teeth, or incorporated into whitening strips. Thickeners such as carbopol and glycerin are often used to achieve the right consistency. [Pg.11]

No, that s also hydrogen peroxide, or a diluted version of it in the form of carbamide peroxide. [Pg.444]

H2O2 converts carboxylic acids (RCOOH) into peroxy acids (RCOOOH), which are themselves used as oxidizing agents. Hydrogen peroxide reacts with acetone to form acetone peroxide, and it interacts with ozone to form hydrogen trioxide, also known as trioxidane. Reaction with urea produces carbamide peroxide, used for whitening teeth. [Pg.69]

Off-the-shelf teeth whiteners typically contain carbamide peroxide (a 1 1 mixture of urea and hydrogen peroxide), glycerin, stannate and pyrophosphate salts (preservatives), and flavoring agents. These whiteners come in a form that can be bmshed directly onto the teeth or are embedded in a plastic strip that can be stuck to the teeth. Because these products have a low strength for safety reasons, it may take several weeks of applying them for full whitening to occur. [Pg.159]
