This zinc metalloenzyme [EC 1.1.1.1 and EC 1.1.1.2] catalyzes the reversible oxidation of a broad spectrum of alcohol substrates and reduction of aldehyde substrates, usually with NAD+ as a coenzyme. The yeast and horse liver enzymes are probably the most extensively characterized oxidoreductases with respect to the reaction mechanism. Only one of two zinc ions is catalytically important, and the general mechanistic properties of the yeast and liver enzymes are similar, but not identical. Alcohol dehydrogenase can be regarded as a model enzyme system for the exploration of hydrogen kinetic isotope effects. [Pg.43]

Kao and Tsien studied the Ca +-binding kinetics of fura-2 and azo-1 by temperature-jump relaxation methods. In 140 mM KCl at 20°C, the respective association and dissociation rate constants for fura-2 were 6x10 M s and 97 s these kinetic properties were insensitive to hydrogen ion concentration over the pH range from 7.4 to 8.4. Azo-1 was studied in 140 mM KCl At 10°C, azo-... [Pg.107]

Procedure of creation of the heat machine based on periodic circulation of hydrogen and increase in the efficiency its operation demands the detailed information on methods of calculation equilibrium P-C-T (pressure - concentration - temperature) of characteristics, thermodynamic, thermalphysic (factors of specific heat conductivity X and heat transfers a depending on temperature and pressure) and kinetic properties of hydrides. Approach to designing HHP as to an individual kind of HHM can be broken on three part [1] ... [Pg.384]

Rekoske and Barteau (68) used TEOM in scaling-up to higher pressure surface-science results dealing with solid reactions related to redox cycles. These authors investigated reduction kinetics and reaction on titanium oxide (69,70). Recent applications also include the investigation of carbon nanofibers (9) and hydrogen adsorption properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes (71). [Pg.359]

Application of SPD techniques to metal hydrides is a new field of research. Skripnyuk and Rabin were the first to use ECAP to improve the hydrogen storage properties of Mg-based alloys [254, 255]. The first study on ECAP-processed magnesium alloy ZK90 showed an improvement in sorption kinetics without loss of hydrogen capacity or change in thermodynamic parameters [254]. figure 4.12 shows comparable results for the Mg-Ni eutectic alloy [255]. [Pg.108]
