Hydrocyclone separator

A promising technique currently under development is downhole separation whereby a device similar to a hydrocyclone separates oil and water in the well bore. The water is subsequently compressed into a zone beneath the producing interval and only the oil is produced to surface. [Pg.361]

The experimental results reported in this paper demonstrate the ability of a flat-bottom hydrocyclone to separate the coarse fraction of ammonium sulfate crystals from a slurry which contains crystals of a wide size range. It appears that the grade efficiency curve, which predicts the probability of a particle reporting to the underflow of the cyclone as a function of size, can be adjusted by a change in the underflow diameter of the hydrocyclone. These two observations lead to the suggestion to use hydrocyclone separation to reduce the crystal size distribution which is produced in crystallisers, whilst using a variable underflow diameter as an additional input for process control. [Pg.130]

The idea of utilizing the centrifugal force for separation of liquid from gas also finds application in gas-oil hydrocyclone separators (Fig. 2.9). In order to create a centrifugal stream inside these separators, an attached unit - a hydrocyclone - is installed on their lateral surface (Fig. 2.9, a, b, c). A hydrocyclone is usually a vertical device with a fiat tangential input and directing branch pipe for gas flow reversal in the top part, and a liquid cross-flow section in the bottom part. The technological reservoir is made in the form of a horizontal separator with various devices for additional separation of liquid from gas that are typical for oil-gas separators. [Pg.22]

This research led to a greater understanding of the capabilities and fundamental operating parameters for hydrocyclones and was used to help design a pilot separation line, the purpose of which was to demonstrate the application of hydrocyclone separations to a wide variety of plastic recycle streams [10]. Some of the advantages and disadvantages of hydrocyclones are summarized here ... [Pg.602]

Gravity and centrifugal sedimentation can be combined for the same sample in order to directly determine Stokes diameter for a wide range of particle sizes. In such a way conversion are avoided and a mass distributions, applicable to processes where gravimetric efficiencies are relevant, can be properly derived. Ortega-Rivas and Svarovsky (1994) determined particle sizes distributions of fines powders using a combined Andreasen Pipette-pipette centrifuge method. They derive relations useful to model hydrocyclone separations, which were later employed to describe apple juice clarification. [Pg.85]

Numerical simulation analysis of subsea gas-liquid hydrocyclone separator based on CFD software... [Pg.45]

ABSTRACT Article has presented a numerical simulation method which was applied to analyzing Internal flow filed of the subsea gas-liquid hydrocyclone separator with Mixture model and RSM. The law of internal flow field distribution and separation characteristics of two-phase flow were obtained with the numerical simulation. Optimized separator structures were obtained with structure optimization design by simulation analysis. The numerical simulation can provide experiences for further study of subsea process equipment research and numerical simulation of hydrocyclones. [Pg.45]

Subsea gas-liquid separation of multiphase well flow, produced-water reinjection and multiphase one-way transportation of gas and crude oil can be achieved by Subsea gas-liquid hydrocyclone separator systems during the prophase subsea separation and processing. The gas-liquid hydrocyclone separator is the key equipment of the separation system, which can reahze gas and Uquid hydrocyclone separating based on the principle of density difference of the gas and liquid (Zhao Guoqing, 2003). [Pg.45]
