Hybrid control systems

Hybrid control systems are the combination of some passive systems with active or semi active systems, resulting to better performance of the control device in reducing the structural responses. One of the most popular systems of them is smart... [Pg.181]

The control of the main drive is relatively simple and straightforward. The control of the back-drive system has required dedicated development. Today the back-drive systems can control the decanter at a fixed differential, at a fixed torque or cake dryness or with some hybrid control system. The hybrid system, say, controls at a fixed differential, until a pre-set torque limit is reached and then at that torque level until the differential changes to a pre-set level. [Pg.116]

Base isolation systems are passive systems, and they do not have the ability to adapt and change their properties in different external excitation (e.g., near- or far-fault excitation). With the addition of an active or semi-active control device to a base-isolated structure, a higher level of performance can be achieved without a substantial increase in the cost. This thought has led to another type of hybrid control system, referred to as hybrid seismic isolation, consisting of active or semi-active devices introduced in base-isolated structures (see Fig. 9). Although base isolation has the ability to reduce interstory drifts and structural accelerations, it increases base displacement, hence the need for an active or semi-active device. In addition, a semi-active friction-controllable fluid bearing has been employed in parallel with a seismic isolation system (Feng and Shinozuka 1992 Sriram et al. 2003). [Pg.6]

Process Control. The traditional process control will be expanded toward new applications such as nonlinear process control of biosystems. However, in the commodity chemicals industry there will be increased need for synthesizing plantwide control systems, as well as integrating dynamics, discrete events, and safety functions, which will be achieved through new mathematical and computer science developments in hybrid systems. [Pg.91]

The Quaranta is a concept hybrid gas/electric vehicle with solar assist. The electric portion is made by Italdesign Giugiaro. The roof is a solar panel that charges the batteries and provides energy for the climate control system. The all wheel drive, mid-engined car accelerates from zero to 62 mph (100 kph) in 4.05 seconds and tops out at 155 mph. This is a three-seat high performance sports car. [Pg.260]

In an open test, the pressure measured will be,the pressure in the containment vessel. If the test is done with the containment vessel closed and the nitrogen pressure control system off, then any permanent gas produced by the reaction will cause the containment vessel pressure to rise. Thus a constant containment vessel pressure indicates a vapour pressure system and a rising containment vessel pressure indicates a gassy or hybrid system. [Pg.131]
