Description of the problem In a housing society built for an aluminum company, the household plumbing was severely affected. All hot water pipes were galvanized steel. The temperature of the water inside the pipe was about 80° C. Every morning, the color of the water becomes red and it gave an offensive odor. The residents of the houses could not use this water for washing purpose as it stained their hands [3]. [Pg.133]

However, several studies have shown the operational integration of horizontal (marriage) and vertical (descent) structures (for example, Friedman 1975 Marx 1977 Kelly 1985), and it is becoming increasingly apparent that the two axes of kinship are not mutually exclusive (Leach 1954 Fortes 1969 80 Bonte 1979 214-15). It is not a matter of one or the other, kin-based society or house society, descent or residence, fact or fiction - even emic or eric views. These different ways of constituting social life, and academic analyses, may be interwoven with each other in unpredictable ways. [Pg.52]
