Hour hand

Stunden-leistung, /. hourly output, -plan, m. timetable working plan, schedule, -zeiger, m. hour hand. [Pg.435]

If a delay of less than 55 minutes is desired, remove the hour hand otherwise, remove the minute hand. (The hand may be broken off, if care is taken not to dislodge the other hand.)... [Pg.11]

Since Roman coins were struck by hand using two separate dies, the relative orientation of the obverse (heads) and reverse (tails) dies is variable. If the obverse is normally oriented with the bust facing left or right, the obverse is oriented at 12 00 (the major vertical axis points in the direction of the hour hand at 12 00). If the coin is rotated 180° around the 12 00 axis, the major vertical axis of the reverse may now point in any direction, and the relative orientation is given as the direc-... [Pg.351]

The density of pure copper is 8.93 g/cm, and the densities of the Claudian quadrantes average about 8.91 0.04 g/cm. None of the coins has any appreciable quantity of voids or internal pores. Die orientations were determined by rotating each coin about its obverse vertical axis. The reverse vertical axis was then found to point in a given direction, which was identified by the equivalent direction of the hour hand of a clock. All of the 84 Claudian quadrantes in the chemical compositional group. [Pg.313]

The clock problem) Here s an old chestnut from high school algebra At 12 00, the hour hand and minute hand of a clock are perfectly aligned. When is the next time they will be aligned (Solve the problem by the methods of this section, and also by some alternative approach of your choosing.)... [Pg.116]

The use of the TI drive scheme to address the TI electrode scheme to produce 2 26 is shown in Fig. 14. The lower 6x5 array indicates half of the inner circle, from 0 to 30 minutes. The top 6x5 array indicates the outer half circle. The full 6x10 arrays are not reproduced in interest of saving space. Starting at the lower left hand corner of both arrays, one counts 26 positions, remembering the fact that the meander lines double back over the BA electrodes, to reach the two positions of the minute segments at 26 minutes. The hour hand has five resolution positions per hour and so can change positions at 0, 12, 24, 36 and 48 minutes past the hour. The hour hand is placed in the... [Pg.215]

Fig. 15. Texas Instruments discrete analog display is shown in the watch application. The long minute hand and the short hour hand are in the traditional format as opposed to the display shown in Fig. 9. Fig. 15. Travel to San Francisco [6]. You set out by car from Portland, Oregon, to San Francisco, California, at 10 a.m. Your friend Peter leaves a little later (but before 11 a.m.), when the minute and hour hands overlap. If both arrive at the same time in San Francisco, how much less time did Peter take for the trip ... [Pg.71]

Reading and understanding. Unlike the first problem (Travel to New York), in this case, the data are numeric, but the difficulty is that we have to relate the speed ratio between the hour hand speed and the minute hand speed. A simple observation (Fig. 5.6) shows a clock at 12 noon and another clock at 1 p.m. We can infer that within 1 h the minute hand will have made a full turn (60 min) and the hour hand will have advanced from 12 to 1 p.m., that is, 5 min. From this we can deduce that the minute hand moves 12 times faster than the hour hand (60/5). [Pg.72]

Graphical representation and variable definition and codification. A clock is shown schematically at 10 a.m. and another that indicates Peter s departure, after 10 a.m. but before 11a. m., and with the minute and hour hands overlapping. [Pg.72]

Mathematical formulation of problem including all available data. As shown in Fig. 5.7, we have called X the minutes advanced by the hour hand and 12x the minutes moved by the minute hand... [Pg.72]

How long was the exam [7]. An exam in your Introduction to Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering class starts when the hour hand of the clock is between 2 and 3 p.m. and the minute hand is between 5 and 6. The exam ends when the positions of the hour and minute hands are reversed. How much time do you have for the Introduction to Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering exam ... [Pg.73]

Reading and understanding. As was deduced in the previous problem (Travel to San Francisco), the minute hand moves 12 times faster than the hour hand. With the information provided in the problem statement, we can calculate when the exam started and when it finished. Then, it is straightforward to calculate the amount of time for the exam. [Pg.73]

Extended angle [3" ]. At what time after 12 am will the minute and hour hands form an extended angle (180°) ... [Pg.96]

Laboratory experiments [6]. The next laboratory on heat transfer begins when the hour hand is between 8 and 9 and the minute hand between 1 and 2. The laboratory will end when the positions have been reversed. How did the laboratory experiments take ... [Pg.96]

Long meeting [6]. A meeting starts between 10 and 11 a.m. and ends between 1 and 2 p.m. The minute and hour hands have swapped places. When does the meeting begin and end ... [Pg.96]

The isotope Pm is commercially available and has found some use. Its emission of low-energy 3-particles is used industrially to measure the thickness of strip steel and paper. To some extent it is also used in miniature batteries with a useful hfe of about five years. These have been tested for such diverse purposes as pacemakers and guided missiles. A paint containing Pm and a material that fluoresces with a bluish-green color after being hit by the P-particles may be used for hour hands and dials in watches. Promethium has replaced radium for reasons of health. [Pg.484]
