Hook and ladder

He was a member of the department for thirty years and worked on some of the busiest engines, trucks, hook-and-ladders, and squad companies in the western part of the city. Eversole was a member of the National Fire Protection Association standard committee that produced national hazardous materials NFPA-471, NFPA-472, and NFPA-473. He was also chairman of the International Association of Fire Chiefs hazardous materials committee. [Pg.501]

Figure 16. a) The "hook and ladder" approach to a figure eight knot, as proposed by Walba [20]. b) The same knot is obtained by connecting two bis-chelate complexes in an orthogonal fashion. The squares represent chemical functions to be interconnected the triangles must also be linked in between themselves. [Pg.275]

Well, how about we get one of those hook-on ladders from the other jobsite and use that Scott replied. [Pg.783]

Falling Either we get that hook-on ladder or call Matt, and that s that. Scott insisted. [Pg.783]

Determined that he and Sawyer needed to use a hook-on ladder to finish assemble of the scaffold or have Matt come and check out the options. [Pg.783]

Scott should stick to his guns and get a hook-on ladder or call Matt for advice. [Pg.784]

Portable, hook-on, and attachable ladders (Additional requirements for the proper construction and use of portable ladders are contained in subpart X of this part—Stairways and Ladders) ... [Pg.497]

Ladders and stairways. When scaffold platforms are more than 2 ft (0.6 m) above or below a point of access, portable ladders, hook-on ladders, attachable ladders, stair towers (scaffold stairways/towers), stairway-type ladders (such as ladder stands), ramps, walkways, integral prefabricated scaffold access, or direct access from another scaffold, structure, personnel hoist, or similar surface shall be used. Crossbraces shall not be used as a means of access. [Pg.100]

Portable, hook-on, and attachable ladders — It is critical that portable, hook-on, and attachable ladders are (1) positioned so as not to tip the scaffold, (2) positioned so the bottom rung is not more than 24 inches above your starting point, and (3) equipped with a rest platform at 35-foot maximum vertical intervals. [Pg.769]

Hook-on or attachable ladders must be installed as soon as scaffold erection has progressed to a point that permits safe installation and use. [Pg.779]

Install and use hook-on or other attachable ladders as soon as it s safe to do so. [Pg.784]

The employer shall provide safe means of access for each employee erecting or dismantling a scaffold where the provision of safe access is feasible and does not create a greater hazard. The employer shall have a competent person determine whether it is feasible or would pose a greater hazard to provide, and have employees use a safe means of access. This determination shall be based on site conditions and the type of scaffold being erected or dismantled. Hook-on or attachable ladders shall be installed as soon as scaffold erection has progressed to a point that permits safe installation and use. [Pg.101]

I was impressed with their collective insight. Instead of blaming the workers for using the incorrect tool, in this case a ladder, they looked at the work environment and were determined to change the system. In the next amazingly productive 15 minutes they decided to work with the maintenance staff to determine where to put wall hooks in the plant to hang the different ladders they may need for the tasks they would find themselves doing in those areas. A small win for safety ... [Pg.39]
