Homogenizing agents

With the discussion above in mind, it is now possible to provide a similar semi quantitative framework in which to view the results obtained on ternary systems (homopolymer A, homopolymer B, diblock AB) and on binary blends of one homopolymer and a diblock copolymer. Of particular importance is the need for an explanation of the fact that the diblock copolymer may serve either as an emulsifying agent (9,25) or as a homogenizing agent (1, 4 ) in ternary blends. [Pg.494]

Because water and alkoxysilanes are immiscible, a mutual solvent such as alcohol is usually used as a homogenizing agent.12 However, gels can be prepared from... [Pg.16]

Methanesulfonyl chloride is the largest-volume alkanesulfonyl chloride. Benzenesulfonyl chloride is the only aromatic sulfonyl halide with significant commercial production, primarily as a feedstock for the manufacture of A-butyl benzenesulfonamide. All sulfonyl chlorides are poorly water soluble, which limits their hydrolysis except at elevated temperatures or in the presence of a homogenizing agent such as a cosolvent, surfactant or phase-transfer agent. [Pg.3105]

The effect of viscosity is important in the production of liquid membranes. These are, to a limited extent, employed in the extraction of non-ferrous metal salts (particularly Zn, Ni, Cu) from process efluents. In their manufacture a prepared water/oil emulsion (e.g. 1/3 kerosene with 2% of a surfactant and 2/3 aqueous NiSO4 with a homogenizing agent) is stirred into the non-ferrous metal salt containing effluent in a ratio of ca. 1 5. It emerged [404], that it is by no means unimportant, how the prepared water/oil emulsion is stirred into this solution. It can be carefully added layer-wise over the aqueous solution and then the stirrer switched on (A), or immediately added to the rotating stirrer (B). [Pg.252]

In general, the masticated NR and EPDM were mixed together with other ingredients including compatibilizers and homogenizing agents in an internal mixer or open mills. The rubber compound is cured in an electrically heated press at 160 °C for optimum cure time, which is determined by rheometer. In order to study the... [Pg.443]

Sol-gel synthesis is the process of formation of porous, three-dimensional, integrated solid network (gel) of either discrete particles or network potymers from the conversion of monomers into stable suspension of colloidal solid particles or pol miers (sol) in a continuous liquid phase. Most popular precursors for the synthesis of colloids are metal alkoxides and alkoxysilanes. Tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) and Tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) are commonly used alkojq silanes, which form silica gel. The remarkable property of these silanes is that they readity react with water in the presence of shorter chain alcohol such as ethanol and ammonia to form monodispersed silica particles [7]. The size of silica particles formed is between 50 and 200 nm and depends on the silica ester used, type of alcohol, and molar ratios of water and alkoxysilane [32]. In this process, alcohol acts as a homogenizing solvent between alkoxides and water as both are immiscible but can be easily dissolved in alcohol. With the presence of this homogenizing agent, hydrolysis can be facilitated [33] due to the complete miscibility. However, aluminates borates and titanates often mixed with TEOS or TMOS are commonly used in sol-gel process. The hydrolysis of alkoxysilane proceeds according to Stober s process (Fig. 18.6). [Pg.698]
