C-termini and a large glycosylated extracellular loop between transmembrane domains 3 and 4. The proteins show the most homology in their transmembrane spanning domains, particularly domains 1, 2, and 4-8, which may be involved in moving the transmitter across the membrane. The transporters are substrates for PKC-dependent phosphorylation, which reduces their activity. The dopamine transporter is phosphorylated on the extreme end of the N-terminal tail, and consensus phosphorylation sites for various other kinases are present in the intracellular loops and domains [20-22] (Fig. 12-4). The dopamine and norepinephrine transporters form functional homo-oligomers, although it is not known if this is required for transport activity, and the transporters also interact with many other membrane proteins that may control their cell-surface expression or other properties. [Pg.216]

With this protocol nine different primary amines (Fig. 7.6) were used to generate different 9-residue homo-oligomers, one 20-residue homo-oligomer and one 9-residue hetero - oligomer. [Pg.186]

This review presents a brief account on the conformation of biologically active oligosaccharides. Emphasis will be put on the conformational analysis of heterooligomers. The conformational preferences of some disaccharides will be included for reference purposes. Conformational aspects of homo-oligomers and homopolymers will not be discussed. [Pg.143]

Anti-sense ollgodeoxyribonucleotides containing either phosphorothioate or natural linkages have been shown to inhibit the replication and expression of human immunodeficiency virus already growing in tissue culture (MOLT-3 cells). The efficiency of inhibition is much greater than that observed with random and homo-oligomers of the same length and reinforces the concept... [Pg.212]

Fuchs and Lehmaim first demonstrated that homo-oligomers of sugar amino acids could be prepared. In their reaction, a glucose-derived sugar amino acid possessing an anomeric carboxylate and a C4 amino group was polymerized imder basic conditions [43]. After the reaction mixture had been heated for 4 h at 100°C, a water-insoluble precipitate formed (Fig. 22). The products were not rigorously characterized, but there was evidence that the precipitate was composed of dimers, trimers, and tetramers. [Pg.510]
