The term flavin stands for the yellow redox-active subgroup of the first coenzyme ever to be elucidated in terms of molecular structure. The heroic period of redox-enzymology of the early thirties ended in Hugo Theorell s 172—175) description of the first enzyme ever to be split reversibly to yield coenzyme and apoprotein. This was the NADPH- 

in the present review, flavin is rediscovered as a natural product , it is for two reasons  

These phenomena can be classified as unnatural properties of natural products , and this explains why commercially available natural flavocoenzymes are largely unsuitable as chemical models for the flavo-holoprotein active sites. 

In order to obtain better chemical models for protein-bound flavin, one has to either acetylate or cut the ribityl side chain of riboflavin down to a methyl group (but not further) and to remove the pairing N(3)-hydrogen by alkylation. These derivatives, i.e. 3,10-dialky 1-isoalloxazines 

To summarize, good flavin models and protein-bound flavin must differ from free flavocoenzymes and vitamins by their lack of self-stacking, self-pairing, (photolytic) self-deleting and pronounced hydrophilic properties.

The key documents of the CDIO approach have been updated. The CDIO Syllabus v2.0 has added two new sections on leadership and entrepreneurship, and given more emphasis to certain topics that were previously subsumed under other headings, for example, ethics, social responsibility, and sustainability. The CDIO Standards v2.0 now includes distinct rubrics for each standard to facilitate self-evaluation. The general structure of the chapters remains the same in that they parallel the CDIO Standards. The chapters on implementation, history of engineering, and outlook have also been updated sinee the first edition.

They have suffered and they will continue to suffer, but I believe, all things considered, that history will declare them right and render them justice.24...
