The two currently married (including one remarried) females were married to men employed in higher education. The largest occupational category for the wives of interviewees was the teaching profession, primarily at the K-12 level. However, the next highest category was housewife. A couple of the male interviewees were married to white-collar professionals (see Table 2.7). [Pg.44]

This is another publication in the series of Monographs for Teachers which was launched in 1959 by the Royal Institute of Chemistry. The initial aim of the series was to present concise and authoritative accounts of selected well-defined topics in chemistry for those who teach the subject at GCE Advanced level and above. This scope has now been widened to cover accounts of newer areas of chemistry or of interdisciplinary fields that make use of chemistry. Though intended primarily for teachers of chemistry, the monographs will doubtless be of value also to a wider readership, including students in further and higher education. [Pg.4]

Most of my books contain material written years ago for people with no higher education. Better to teach yourself from them than to quit in confusion and frustration because of classes for those used to formal study. [Pg.2]

Because a broader definition of scholarship is now accepted in higher education and it is realized that faculty members cannot effectively accomplish all four missions, two faculty models are most frequently used today. Individuals who assume the practitioner-educator model are enabled to accomplish either the scholarship of integration, application, and/or teaching because of their focus on teaching and practice. Individuals who fulfill the researcher-educator model are able to pursue the scholarship of discovery because they have minimal practice expectations. [Pg.3]

The Thai Science Teaching Project (Thai-STEP) is another such projects which aims at improving the pre-service training in all higher education institutions with teacher training responsibility across Thailand. [Pg.60]

The chapter starts with a brief introduction on the historical development of chemical equilibrium. On the basis of this historical analysis, the ways in which chemical equilibrium has been, and is, taught in curricula for secondary and higher education is then addressed. This curricular analysis provides a framework for the discussion of the teaching and learning of chemical equilibrium. A review is presented of learning difficulties associated with chemical equilibrium, followed by an overview of teaching... [Pg.271]

In higher education and, in some countries, in the highest grades of secondary education, a thermodynamic approach is used in which chemical equilibrium is discussed in relation to thermodynamic quantities, such as entropy and Gibbs energy. In this context, an expression of the type [Cj p] / [AT.[BT = Keq is often derived on the basis of thermodynamic equations (see Figure 1). Thus, a thermodynamic approach to teaching... [Pg.275]

The wonderful thing about higher education is that its core mission is to teach and to produce scholarship that advances understanding. We have the opportunity, therefore, to integrate teaching, learning, and conducting research on diversity and inclusion into the everyday work of the academy. [Pg.466]
