High-performance insulation

These resins have extensive appHcations in the high performance insulation markets (traction motor, wire cable) and flexible printed circuits. Du Pont supphes Kapton film and also suppHes Verpel stock shapes made from the same resin by powder sintering methods. 

Applications include high-performance insulation for wire and cables (particularly heater cables), and corrosion-resistant linings for pumps, valves, pipes and other chemical equipment. Its availability in the form of film and tubing has led to its demand for both corrosion protection and antistick applications. 

The last 20 years have seen enormous progress in the development of high-performance fluoropolymers. Fluorine-containing polyimides stand out as one of the few types of materials that simultaneously possess outstanding thermal stability and mechanical properties, low dielectric permittivity, and thin-film processability. This combination of properties makes them ideal for use as high-performance insulators in electronic devices.

Evacuation reduces these values to below 0.009 W/(m-K). The best values for aerogel powders at 300 K are 0.002 W/(m-K). Thus these materials can be considered most suitable for application in high-performance insulations, for example in a NaS battery or in other high-technology insulations for which large dwell times are required. 

In these 5 Polymer Foams, currently, the largest shipment has been Foamed Polystyrene, which is classified to Expandable Polystyrene (EPS), Extruded Polystyrene (XPS), and Polystyrene Paper (PSP). Among those, EPS and XPS Polymer Foams are used for high performance insulating materials.
