Characteristics high-performance insulation

Polyimide. Polyimide is a biaxiaHy oriented high performance film that is tough, flexible, and temperature- and combustion-resistant. Its room temperature properties compare to poly(ethylene terephthalate), but it retains these good characteristics at temperatures above 400°C. Its electrical resistance is good and it is dimensionally stable. The principal detriment is fairly high moisture absorbance. The main uses are for electrical insulation, particularly where high temperatures are prevalent or ionizing radiation is a problem. The films may be coated to reduce water absorption and enhance... [Pg.377]

The low-pressure encapsulation compounds, which exhibit the same high-performance characteristics as the high-pressure compounds, have become the primary insulating medium for the encapsulation of components such as integrated circuits, resistors, coils, diodes, capacitors, relays, and bobbins. [Pg.149]

For high-performance electronic plastics, it is desired that the volume resistivity exceed 10 ohm-cm. One other term used to describe the resistance characteristics of an electronic plastic part, such as a circuit board or connector, is insulation resistance. This is simply the resistance, in ohms, between two conductors that are embedded within the plastic part. [Pg.484]

These high performance polymers not only meet unusual requirements for long term durability at elevated temperatures, they may also have unique and diverse characteristics such as conductivity, insulating properties, chemical resistance, self extinquishing, selective gas barrier properties and are also used in normal applications as films, fibers, elastomers, adhesives, and coatings as well as injection moldable materials of construction. [Pg.3]
