The phase behavior of polybibenzoates has been investigated mainly by DSC, variable-temperature x-ray diffraction, and optical microscopy. However, only the first two techniques are useful in the case of polymers with the high-molecular weights required for materials with good mechanical properties and, in such cases, revealing textures are not usually observed by optical microscopy. [Pg.384]

The mechanism of formation of morphology structures in iPP-E-plastomers blends via shear-dependent mixing and demixing was investigated by optical microscopy and electron microscopy. A single-phase stmcture is formed under high shear condition in injection machine after injection, namely under zero-shear environments, spinodal decomposition proceeds and leads to the formation of a bicontinuous phase stmcture. The velocity of spinodal decomposition and the phase separation depend on the molecular stmcture of iPP and E-plastomer components. [Pg.175]

Even smaller pipettes, down to 3nm radius, were used to measure facilitated IT kinetics [8a]. Unlike micrometer-sized pipettes, the size and shape of a nanometer-radius ITIES cannot be evaluated by optical microscopy. Thus, a thorough electrochemical characterization of nanopipettes is required. Another problem is a higher internal resistance, which increases with decreasing radius and can become as high as 100 [8a]. A... [Pg.389]

Preliminary room temperature x-ray data of 0.65 Me4C00-PECH indicates that the sample presents a highly ordered smectic mesophase which was not yet completely assigned. The textures seen by polarized optical microscopy are also typical of smectic phases. Due to the very high molecular weights involved, textures specific to mesophase in thermodynamic equilibrium could not be developed within a reasonable amount of time by annealing. [Pg.116]

Optical microscopy is often coupled with infra-red spectroscopy. We use the optical portion of the instrument to identify regions of interest, onto which we direct a highly focused infra-red beam. We obtain an infra-red spectrum from the radiation that penetrates the sample. The region of interest may be as small as 250 pm (250 x iff"6 m) In diameter. We can compare the spectrum with a library of reference samples in order to identify the chemical structure of the area of interest. Polymer scientists make extensive use of this technique when examining multi-layer samples or when performing contaminant analyses. [Pg.148]

In the first LDMS-based detection of malaria in human subjects (unpublished), lOOpl P. falciparum or P. v/vax-infected blood samples, grouped into three different parasitemia ranges—low (10-150 parasites/pl), mid (2 x 103 parasites/pl), and high (25 x 103-60 x 103 parasites/pl)—have been examined using both sample preparation protocols. Parasitemia levels in these samples were previously determined independently for each sample by optical microscopy examination of blood smears. The LDMS data clearly indicate that... [Pg.170]

During investigations we were analyzing samples by methods of X-ray diffraction, electron scanning microscopy, microprobe analysis, atomic force microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy with preliminary attracting of the another methods including optical microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, thermal analysis and some of others. [Pg.523]
