Surface topology heterogeneous

Molecular imaging includes mapping of specific chemicals and chemical properties across heterogeneous surfaces, such as lipids across cell surfaces, proteins atop tissue slices, and carbonyl grouping on carbon surfaces. Surface imaging includes exploration of topology and surface features in addition to chemical composition. 

Besides practical importance, the deposition of particles on heterogeneous surfaces, in particular surface features, has a major significance for colloid science, because interesting dues concerning the dynamic particle center interactions can be extracted by determining the maximum coverage and the topology of partide layers [43, 44].

The most commonly used model for pore topology is to represent the material as composed of independent, non-interconnected pores of some simple geometry usually these are of slit shape for activated carbons, and of cylindrical geometry for glasses, oxides, silicas, etc. Usually, the heterogeneity is approximated by a distribution of pore sizes, it being implicitly assumed that all pores are of the same geometry and surface chemistry.
