Here and now decisions

Can here and now decisions and design parameters be managed in relation to targets or aspiration levels for the different indicators listed above ... 

This set of decisions are taken before any uncertain parameter is unveiled. They are also known as here and now decisions. The interval of time associated with them is known as ht first stage of the stochastic program. 

Energy-use behavior cannot be looked at just in the here and now or in isolation. Americans developed a greater reliance on heat, light, and power than any other nation, primarily due to decisions made by industry, government, and individuals of earlier generations that largely established the patterns for behavior today. Collective choices made long ago have behavioral consequences today, just as collective choices made today will have behavioral consequences for many more years to come. 

Gupta/Maranas (2003) as one example for a demand uncertainty model present a demand and supply network planning model to minimize costs. Production decisions are made here and now and demand uncertainty is balanced with inventories independently incorporating penalties for safety stock and demand violations. Uncertain demand quantity is modeled as normally distributed random variables with mean and standard deviation. The philosophy to have one production plan separated from demand uncertainty can be transferred to the considered problem. Penalty costs for unsatisfied demand and normally distributed demand based on historical data... 

Let us assume here and now that, in either case, we shall only deal with the m permutationally distinct integrals and not the entire set of m numbers. This simple decision has some consequences however, since, in addition to the value of a particular repulsion integral, we need to know which one it is, i.e. for a particular electron-repulsion integral we need to know... 

The decision variables involved in our problem can be partitioned into two different sets, namely the strategic and the operational decisions. The strategic decisions reflect the decisions that must be made immediately (here-and-now) in the face of significant uncertainty and they include product selection (binary variables), allocation of products to production sites (binary variables), capacity investment decisions for the selected production sites (binary variables). 

Specific interventions that counter anxiety arousing include relaxation training (15). The mindfulness approach, as popularized by Jon Katat-Zinn (24), assists patients to focus on the here and now. Music therapy has also been shown to have positive results in reducing anxiety for patients on LTMV (25). Professional support is valuable when addressing sensitive issues, such as end-of-life decisions and advanced directives for medical care. For terminally ill patients, family members can be assisted in expressing their loss, grief, and guilt. 

From now on any major decisions important for the future of the people will be made here in the centre of this colossal country. Now the heart of our motherland is beating here. Kazakhstan is making and defining its history and destiny here and today (kazakhembus, 2009). ... 

Here, only the worst case for the classical computer will be considered. This is the case for which the quantum computer s superiority is most obvious [5]. In the worst case an oracle provides only functions such that the first N calls of / yield N bits of the same kind. In this case, we need exactly iV- -1 calls of / Suppose after N calls we have a string which consists of N zeros. Now I think that it is not irrelevant to note here that in this project the water heating system for the showers was connected to the garbage incinerator and not to the crematorium oven, as for example in the five-muffle oven of the Lublin KL. In my opinion, the reason for that decision was the fact that the crematorium ovens did not ensure a continuity of use to be able to provide sufficient hot water throughout the entire day in other words, the crematorium ovens were not used enough to ensure efficient operation of the water heating system. 

Whereas in a micro plant only the most important process steps and some of the recycle loops are tested, in the miniplant the complete process with all recycle loops is executed and processed continuously for several weeks. For environmental and economic reasons, solvents and unconverted reactants are recycled. Here, it is especially important to find out if small impurities below the detection limit will possibly accumulate or form deposits. To minimize the up-scaling risk for the final production plant, often a pilot plant is the next scale-up step. Now the final product is produced and often first samples are sent to customers. Every step in this scale-up procedure is followed by an evaluation step defined in a number of evaluation studies, which assist in the decision as to whether the project has to be terminated, repeated or further processed.
