Health profile

Using this system, SC Johnson scores both raw materials and formulated products, tracks the score of all raw material purchases and measures the overall percentage of materials that fall into each rating category, that is considered Best or RUM . The scores are used to set company goals, as well as to reward the formulators and chemists who use the system to improve the environmental and human health profiles of individual products and product lines. [Pg.295]

Flame-retardants that are preferable would have been evaluated in risk assessments to ensure acceptable environmental profiles, human health profiles, and risk management in place. The use of excellent product stewardship to keep flame-retardants out of the environment is a key to sustainability of the products and an important attribute of Green Solutions. ... [Pg.698]

The first modem health status questionnaires were very long, but their results were well validated. The Sickness Impact Profile (SIP) is an example of an early profile. It includes a physical dimension and a psychosocial dimen-sion. - A dimension is a quality or aspect that is a component of health. The SIP also includes five independent categories including sleep, rest, eating, work, and home management, as well as recreation and pastimes. More recently, shorter profiles have been developed such as the Nottingham Health Profile and the Medical Outcomes Study (MQS) 36-Item Health Survey (SF-36) (Appendix 4). [Pg.805]

Fig. 5 Identification of subpopulation characteristics by the use of bio-application, Cell Health profiling. Panel cells were treated for 24 h with vehicle control (a—d), Staurosporine (e-h), or Triton X-100 (images not shown). Cells were stained with Hoechst 33342 to detect nuclei, TOTO-3 to detect necrotic cells, and Caspase 3/7 active cells were stained by Cell Event (Molecular Probes). The overlaid rings in the images represent the nuclei identified by Hoechst, by utilization of the bio-application Cell Health Profiling. By use of the subpopulation characterization tool from the bio-application, the number of necrotic cells (TOTO-3 positive), apoptotic (caspase 3/7 positive), and apo-necrotic cells (TOTO-3 and caspase 3/7 co-staining positive) were quantified... Health profiles provide an array of scores representing individual dimensions or domains of HRQOL or health status. An advantage of a health profile is that it provides multiple outcome scores that may be useful to clinicians and/or researchers attempting to measure differential effects of a condition or its treatment on various QOL domains. [Pg.19]

Many HRQOL instruments are in the pubhc domain. However, although they can be used for no or little cosf there may be a fee associated with the purchase of a user s guide or scoring manual. The MOT (www.outcomes-trust.org) is a source for a number of instruments, including the Duke Health Profile, QWB, MOS-HIV Health Survey, Migraine Specific Quality of Life (MSQOL), and Sickness... [Pg.23]

The above example is attractive in that it compares two forms of therapy. What it does not do is place a value on an extra year of life gained or indeed on the quality of life. Economists have worked hard at producing measures to quantify these two concepts. A number of indexes have been produced, the meaning of which is uncertain and discussion of which is beyond the scope of this chapter. They include the Nottingham Health Profile, the American Sickness Impact Profile and the Rosser Health Index." The Rosser Index has been used to produce a quality adjusted life year or QALY. Each year of life is discounted by a factor reflecting the disability and distress suffered during the year. The factor is obtained by asking people to estimate what number of years of perfect health would be equivalent to 10 years of life in a particular state of disability. [Pg.744]

We believe there is a strong possibility that a small group of sterols and steroids in a certain narrow concentration range would be observed only in sera of healthy individuals, regardless of their age, sex, diet and lifestyle. The composition, nature and concentration of such chemical species, when tabulated, would serve as health profiles of normal subjects. We anticipate these profiles should be very similar to one another. [Pg.380]

Comparison of these sets of health profiles with the ones of normal individuals should reveal significant differences in composition, nature, and concentrations. The analysis of the magnitude of differences may eventually lead to an estimate of the severity of pathogenic conditions. [Pg.381]

During the course of this investigation a very large number of health profiles of normal and diseased individuals will be compiled. When thus constructed health profiles of subjects with known medical histories are compared with the one of an incoming patient, the examining physician can derive certain specific knowledge of the patient s cardiovascular health state. [Pg.381]

The gold number of various fluids of our body presents a picture of our health profile and thus can be used for diagnostic purposes by a clinical chemist. [Pg.86]

A wide variety of LAB cultures can be used for the fermentation of either milk or grains for the preparation of the final fermented product. The fimction and characteristics of the LAB used will further define both the organoleptic and health profile of the end product. A broader health relevant grouping is probiotics and nonprobiotics (Christensen 2005). Probiotics are generally considered as LAB that can survive in the host environment (Fuller 1989) and can be defined as microbial cell preparations that have a beneficial effect on the health and wellbeing of the host, (Salminen et al. 1998). [Pg.95]
