When a detector array is connected to the side edges of a plurality of thin silicon substrates, which comprise signal processing electronics, there is a problem in forming interconnect bumps on the side edges of the silicon substrates. This problem is solved in US-A-5081063 (Harris Corporation, USA, 14.01.92) by an electroplating technique.

Of all the subjects considered in this book, none has turned out to be more controversial than the broadband array treated in Chapter 6. Actually, it started quite innocently. Two of my old friends from the Harris Corporation, Bill Crosswell and Bob Taylor, stopped by my office in the OSU ElectroScience Laboratory and said, Ben, we need a broadband array. Our ideas so far have not panned out. Do you have any suggestions ...

However, the most discussed subject was the Broadband Array Concept It was set in motion by two of the author s oldest friends, namely Mr. Wilham Croswell and Mr. Robert Taylor from the Harris Corporation. This relationship resulted in many innovative ideas as well as support. So did my cooperation with Mission Research (home of many of the author s old students). My deep-felt thanks goes to all who participated in particular Errol English who wrote Section 9.6 about Tapered Periodic Surfaces, and Peter Munk who supplied Section 3.7 investigating Periodic Surfaces with arbitrary oriented elements. 

Eiometric package—A package where the die is exposed but the interconnections are protected by a window frame and plastic encapsulant. Developed by Harris Corporation (Melbourne, FL) in 1996 for a sensor chip used to recognize a person s fingerprint. 

MQFP—Metal Quad Flatpack. Sometimes used to refer to a plastic metric quad flat pack (such as Harris Corporation, Harris sold its semiconductor operations, now known as Intersil Corp.). MQuad, designed by the Olin Corporation, a high thermal dissipation aluminum package available in plastic leaded chip carrier (PLCC) and QFP packages (with 28-300 leads, and clock speeds of 150 MHz) (see Fig. 8.137).

Harry Diamond Labs. The Army has classified the Harry Diamond Laboratories at Adelphi, Maryland, as a permanent US Army installation. The facility is a corporate laboratory of the US Army Materiel Command, specializing in fuzes, fluidics, special purpose radars, nuclear weapons effects, and other research, development, and engineering for weapons systems Ref The Official Magazine of United States Army Logistics, Vol 5, No 2 (Mar-April 1973)... 

Brinco s board of directors today includes Mark Turner, the chairman of Rio Tinto Zinc, former member of the RIIA Council Edmund de Rothschild, the president of N. M. Rothschild and Sons and Sam Harris, the New York lawyer who is a director of Rio Tinto Zinc and whose law firm represents RTZ as well as the Kaplan Foundation, a funder of environmentalist groups. In court papers filed by the Westinghouse Corporation, Harris was named a conspirator in a plan to raise artificially the price of the world s uranium 800 percent during the 1970s.

In a general journal, a detailed description of each transaction is provided and journalized (recorded). As it is the initial record of each transaction, this journal is referred to as the book of original entry. The general journal includes the date, type of transaction, and dollar amount involved. It is the simplest form of journal and may be the only journal used by a firm because it includes transactions that are not applicable for other types of journals. However, other journals are often used as one journal may prove too cumbersome and disorganized for a corporation. Table 9.1 presents an example of a general journal for Amy Harris s initial investment.
