In addition, they have established a Chemical Intensive Products (CIP) Network whose stated mission is to provide to our customers affordable and effective products where aU chemical ingredients are preferred for Mother, Child and the Environment delivered in the most efficient and effective way . In practice, this means that when an ingredient in a product or the product itself is considered to be capable of causing harm to human health and the environment, Wal-Mart will act to find better alternatives.

The use of chlorine dioxide in water systems results in its reduction to chlorite and chloride. In the UK the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) restricts the use of chlorine dioxide in potable water supplies to a maximum of 0.5ppm total oxidants expressed as chlorine dioxide. This ensures that chlorite (and any chlorate) concentrations do not reach levels of potential harm to humans. 

Exposure to Hg may cause serious harm to human health, at high doses it can even be fatal. Mercury toxicity usually involves the kidneys and/or nervous system disorders (central nervous system and neurobehavioral changes). Mercury contamination has been found in more than 70 federal sites with Hg-contaminated wastes.

Low concentrations of VOCs in ambient ah of 1 to 1,000 ppmv (parts per million based on volume) are often harmful to human health. VOCs also promote the photochemical formation of ozone and other contaminants, and in high concentrations are a fire hazard. These severe environmental implications have resulted in increasingly stringent legislation in the U.S.A. and elsewhere to limit release of VOCs into the atmosphere. Control technologies for VOCs release include combustion and vapor recovery. Vapor recovery is preferred as combustion may result in the production of other air pollutants, and destroy valuable VOCs.

Toxic chemicals are further defined in Article II para 2 as meaning Any chemical which through its chemical action on life processes can cause death, temporary incapacitation or permanent harm to humans and animals. This includes all such chemicals, regardless of their origin or of their method of production and regardless of whether they are produced in facilities, in munitions or elsewhere . 

Heavy metals in the environment, especially their accumulation in soils, is a serious environmental problem which the whole world faces (Du et al. 2005). The farmland soils are an important media of the ecological cycle of Cadmium, and its harm to human health can t be neglected (Wu et al. 2004). Biocidal products are necessary for the control of organisms that are harmful to human or animal health and for the control of oiganisms that cause damage to natural or manufactured products.
