Halides, aryl, also coupling

Traditionally, the synthesis of symmetrical biaryls was routinely accomplished using the Ullmann reaction. Recently, palladium-catalyzed homocoupling of aryl halides has also been demonstrated to rival the utility of the Ullmann coupling. As illustrated in Scheme 21, using Pd(OAc)2 as the... [Pg.26]

Alkenylboranes (R2C=CHBZ2 Z — various groups) couple in high yields with vinylic, alkynyl, aryl, benzylic, and allylic halides in the presence of tetra-kis(triphenylphosphine)palladium, Pd(PPh3)4, and a base to give R C CHR. 9-Alkyl-9-BBN compounds (p. 1013) also couple with vinylic and aryl halides " as well as with a-halo ketones, nitriles, and esters.Aryl halides couple with ArB(IR2 ) species with a palladium catalyst. ... [Pg.541]

In a Kumada-Corriu reaction, an aryl halide is oxidatively coupled with a homogeneous nickel(ll)-phosphine catalyst [2], This species reacts with a Grignard reagent to give biaryl or alkylaryl compounds. Later, palladium-phosphine complexes were also successfully applied. By this means, stereospecific transformations were achieved. [Pg.486]

Coupling of certain lithiated reagents with aryl and vinyl halides is also possible.82 These reactions probably proceeds by a fast halogen-lithium exchange, generating the alkyl halide, which then undergoes substitution. This reaction has been applied to P-lithiobenzamides.83... [Pg.636]

Procedures for the synthesis of ketones based on coupling of organostannanes with acyl halides have also been developed.211 The catalytic cycle is similar to that involved in coupling with aryl halides. The scope of compounds to which the reaction is applicable includes tetra-u-butylstannane. This example indicates that the reductive elimination step competes successfully with (3-elimination. [Pg.736]

The reduction of organic halides is of practical importance for the treatment of effluents containing toxic organic halides and also for valuable synthetic applications. Direct electroreduction of alkyl and aryl halides is a kinetically slow process that requires high overpotentials. Their electrochemical activation is best achieved by use of electrochemically generated low-valent transition metal catalysts. Electrocatalytic coupling reactions of organic halides were reviewed in 1997.202... [Pg.485]

The pyrrole component can also be employed as the aryl halide in Suzuki coupling with aryl boronic acids. Thus, Chang has effected several such reactions using phenylboronic acid and halopyrroles such as 70 and 71 [60]. [Pg.47]

Instead of quenching with deuterium chloride, the intermediary organomonozinc compound can be used as a new nucleophile. Not only allylic halide but also alkenyl or aryl halide can be used as the first electrophile with bis(iodozincio)methane (3). In Scheme 23, examples for sequential coupling are summarized. In the case of coupling with bromoalkene, a nickel catalyst is more effective than a palladium catalyst. [Pg.661]

Yields versus aryl halides are moderate to good. Other nitrogen heterocycles such as 2-chloro-5-trifluoromethylpyridine or 2-chloropyrimidine were also coupled with p-MeOCgHjZnBr in 33% and 54% yields, respectively. Under the same conditions, no coupling product was observed with 3-chloropyridine. This specific behavior of 2-chloropyridine as compared to aryl halides can be explained by the presence of the nitrogen atom close to the carbon—halogen bond. [Pg.781]

The Suzuki coupling of aryl halides was also extended to tosylates recently. Benzothiazole 5-tosylate reacted with m-xylene-2-boronic acid (6.13.) to give the coupled product in 94% yield using palladium acetate and a stericly congested biphenyl based phosphine ligand as catalyst.17 Another class of less commonly utilised cross-coupling partners are methyltio derivatives. In the presence of a copper salt, which activates the carbon-sulphur bond, 2-methyltio-benzotiazol coupled readily with a series of arylboronic acids.18... [Pg.102]

Thienylstannanes were also coupled with a series of reagents other, than conventional aryl halides. 2,2 -Bithiophene was prepared from the thienyliodonium salt shown in 6.34. and 2-tributylstannylthiophene. The activity of the iodonium salt allows for the room temperature coupling of the reagents in the presence of only 0.5 mol% palladium dichloride in a coordinating solvent mixture to give an excellent yield of the desired product.48... [Pg.110]

Under copper catalyzed conditions azoles (i.e. imidazoles) couple not only with aryl halides but also with arylboronic acids. The reaction, run in the presence of oxygen, follows a unique path (for details see Chapter 2.5.). From the synthetic point of view, the arylation of imidazole proceeds in good yield, although the regioselectivity in the arylation of 4-substituted imidazoles is only moderate (6.70.),102... [Pg.123]

The Heck reactions depicted so far all involve the coupling of halopyridines and other olefins. The alternate approach, coupling of a vinylpyridine with an aryl halide is also feasible, although less commonly employed. 4-Vinylpyridine was coupled successfully with diethyl 4-bromobenzylphosphonate (7.50.) in the presence of a highly active catalyst system consisting of palladium acetate and tn-o-tolylphosphine to give the desired product in 89% yield, which was used for grafting the pyridine moiety onto metal oxides.70... [Pg.158]

Unactivated aryl iodides undergo the conversion Arl — ArCHj when treated with tris(diethylamino)sulfonium difluorotrimethylsilicate and a palladium catalyst.131 A number of methods, all catalyzed by palladium complexes, have been used to prepare unsymmetrical biaryls (see also 3-16). In these methods, aryl bromides or iodides are coupled with aryl Grignard reagents,152 with arylboronic acids ArB(OH)2,153 with aryltin compounds Ar-SnR3,154 and with arylmercury compounds.155 Unsymmetrical binaphthyls were synthesized by photochemically stimulated reaction of naphthyl iodides with naphthoxide ions in an SrnI reaction.156 Grignard reagents also couple with aryl halides without a palladium catalyst, by the benzyne mechanism.157 OS VI, 916 65, 108 66, 67. [Pg.662]

Ullmann reaction (4, 33-34). Semmelhack et al.1 recorded details of the coupling of aryl and vinyl halides with Ni(0) complexes, (COD)2Ni or Ni[P(C6H5)3]4. This reaction was used for the first synthesis of almusone (3), an antileukemic lignan obtained from the wood of Alnus japonica Steud. In the case of ort/io-substituted aryl iodides such as 1, reduction becomes a competing reaction and the yields are only moderate. In fact o,o-disubstituted aryl halides cannot be coupled under these conditions. Deliberate addition of a proton source increases formation of the reduction product. Acetic or trifluoroacetic acid are useful for this purpose. Added triphenyl-phosphine also promotes reduction. [Pg.368]

The borate intermediate was also coupled with aryl halides. When a ynyl group is present, coupling is followed by a tandem cyclization which leads to 2-[ t-(cycloalkylidene)alkyl]indoles. <95CC409>... [Pg.113]

Aryl halides may also be electrochemically coupled with a-halo esters, when catalyzed by nickel complexes (equation 146)833,834. [Pg.752]
