Hacksaw

An old pipeline, no longer used, was marked with chalk at the point at which it was to be cut. Before the mechanic could start work, heavy rain washed off the chalk mark. The mechanic "remembered" where the chalk mark had been and he was found cutting his way with a hacksaw through a line containing a hazardous chemical.

MATERIALS Hacksaw blade, table knife or strip of springy steel, board, nails, electric wire, battery, electric blasting cap. 

Saw thin metal blade with a sharp-toothed edge used to cut wood or metal handsaw, hacksaw, jigsaw... 

This remaining aluminum sandwich contains the detonator cap and sodium azide pellets. It is permanently die pressed together and built like a German bunker. There is absolutely no way to disassemble without totally destroying the unit. Fortunately everything is made of aluminum so that one can hacksaw through with some impunity. 

Use a file, Dremel tool or hacksaw to remove the remaining metal between fins. 

If a hacksaw is used, extend the length of the mount pins and install five blades on the frame. This should cut the correct width slot in one pass. Hacksaw blades are. 5" high, so epoxy a. 0625" wide strip along the side of the top edge to limit the depth of the cut to. 4375", If a miter box is available, set angle to 87 ... 

Slots can be easily cut in sheet metal with a hacksaw by bending the metal over a wooden form and damping it in a vise. A cut is then made for each side of the slot, after which the metal is removed from the vise and the ends of the slot cut... 

Cutting a square end on brass tubing with a hacksaw is made easier by using this guide. It is a piece of sheet metal bent to fit tightly around the tubing, and has a slo.t in the center, which guides the saw blade. 

A hacksaw blade or similar flexible strip of conductive metal Is secured to a board with three nails a, b, and c) as shown. One of the two circuit wires Is now attached to this end of the metal strip. 

Four 1 inch deep hacksaw cuts are mqde in each end of the tube. This witi produce 8 evenly spaced slots, 1 Inch deep. Bevel the inside edgea of both ends of the tube with e round file or sandpaper. Place a hose clamp on each end of the tube end screw down flngertight. 

Use the hacksaw and file to round off corners of the side plates and cut off excess material. 

Tubing cutter - not necessary but handier than the hacksaw for cutting drain pipe. The hacksaw Is still needed for other cutting. 

The barrel Is composed of a steel liner 3/8 00 and an aluminum outer sleeve that Is 3/4 OD at the mark. You want to cut through the outer barrel only, so draw a line on the hacksaw blade 3/16 above the teeth. Cut the barrel at the file mark, rotating It as you go, until the entire cut is 3/16" deep. If you saw slowly, you can feel when you reach the steel liner,... 

The liner Is epoxied Into the outer barrel, so you remove it by heating the outer barrel with the torch, expanding it and breaking the epoxy bond. (Epoxy breaks down at about 300 ) Clamp the rear of the barrel in the vise, and use the vise grips or large pliers to slowly twist and pull the outer barrel section off the liner. If it won t turn when heated, go back to the cut, remark the hacksaw blade and find the spot that is not completely cut through. Go easy when removing the outer barrel, it s easy to bend the inner liner. 

The shaft collar is now installed on the barrel. The outer barrel Is tapered it measures about 3/4 00 at the hacksaw cut and is about 1/16 larger. V back (2 from the rear of barrel). Carefully file this V wide area until the shaft collar will snugly slip over the outer barrel and rest flush with it. The collar Itself... 

A. Using the hacksaw and padded vise cut the scope mount as shown in Fig. II. Sand all rough edges smooth. 

By simply taking a hacksaw and sawing the. 25 mm adapter just above the ridge on the inside you are... 

CUT AT SPOT WELD REMOVE USE HACKSAW THEN FILE... 

Hacksaw or File Piece of wood 10 in. square by 1 in. thick... 

Remove the trip lever from the mousetrap using a hacksaw or file. Also remove the staple and holding wire.
