Grass snakes sometimes use compost heaps as nesting sites. The warmth of the rotting vegetation provides ideal conditions for incubating their eggs.

Areas adjacent to the facility should receive proper housekeeping. Roadways should be in good repair well marked and lighted. The potential for fire exists in dry grass or weeds, so the control and clearing of these hazards should be a part of the plan. In addition, the existence of snakes is possible in tall weeds. A plan to eliminae snakes or other harmful animals or insects should be developed.
