Experiment 153. — Dissolve i gm. of copper sulphate in 15 cc. of water, and 5 gm. of Rochelle salt (sodium potassium tartrate) in 10 cc. of water mix these solutions, warm, and filter. Add to this filtrate about 5 cc. of a dilute solution of grape sugar (or of cane sugai which has been boiled at least five minutes with dilute sulphuric acid), and enough sodium hydroxide solution to dissolve any precipitate. The solution must be strongly alkaline. Boil until a decided change is produced. The product is cuprous oxide. Describe it. Show by a comparative table the general properties of the two oxides of copper.
