Grain inhibition

Raw soybeans also maybe used as a supplemental protein source. Dry beans, ie, beans normally harvested in the green / imm a tiire state, fava beans, lupins, field peas, lentils, and other grain legumes are potential supplemental protein sources however, several of these may have deleterious effects, predominantly enzyme inhibition, on the animal. The supply of each is limited (5). [Pg.156]

The following mechanisms in corrosion behavior have been affected by implantation and have been reviewed (119) (/) expansion of the passive range of potential, (2) enhancement of resistance to localized breakdown of passive film, (J) formation of amorphous surface alloy to eliminate grain boundaries and stabilize an amorphous passive film, (4) shift open circuit (corrosion) potential into passive range of potential, (5) reduce/eliminate attack at second-phase particles, and (6) inhibit cathodic kinetics. [Pg.398]

Addition of niobium to austenitic stainless steels inhibits intergranular corrosion by forming niobium carbide with the carbon that is present in the steel. Without the niobium addition, chromium precipitates as a chromium carbide film at the grain boundaries and thus depletes the adjacent areas of chromium and reduces the corrosion resistance. An amount of niobium equal to 10 times the carbon content is necessary to prevent precipitation of the chromium carbide. [Pg.26]

The converted mash is pumped to a clean sterilised fermentor and the yeast inoculum is added. The set temperature range for whiskey fermentation of 72 hours is usually 17—21°C. At the beginning, the mash converted composition is approximately 80% sugars, mainly maltose and some (<1%) dextrose (primary conversion). The pH is adjusted to reduce initial bacterial growth. Grain neutral spidts are usually set at 27—29°C to expedite fermentation. Temperatures above 35°C inhibit yeast reproduction and promote rapid bacterial growth. Above 40°C actual yeast kill occurs. [Pg.85]

Chemical reaction This involves the formation of distinct compounds by reaction between the solid metal and the fused metal or salt. If such compounds form an adherent, continuous layer at the interface they tend to inhibit continuation of the reaction. If, however, they are non-adherent or soluble in the molten phase, no protection will be offered. In some instances, the compounds form in the matrix of the alloy, for example as grain-boundary intermetallic compound, and result in harmful liquid metal embrittlement (LME) although no corrosion loss can be observed. [Pg.1059]

Discussion. The turbidity of a dilute barium sulphate suspension is difficult to reproduce it is therefore essential to adhere rigidly to the experimental procedure detailed below. The velocity of the precipitation, as well as the concentration of the reactants, must be controlled by adding (after all the other components are present) pure solid barium chloride of definite grain size. The rate of solution of the barium chloride controls the velocity of the reaction. Sodium chloride and hydrochloric acid are added before the precipitation in order to inhibit the growth of microcrystals of barium sulphate the optimum pH is maintained and minimises the effect of variable amounts of other electrolytes present in the sample upon the size of the suspended barium sulphate particles. A glycerol-ethanol solution helps to stabilise the turbidity. The reaction vessel is shaken gently in order to obtain a uniform particle size each vessel should be shaken at the same rate and the same number of times. The unknown must be treated exactly like the standard solution. The interval between the time of precipitation and measurement must be kept constant. [Pg.729]
