Grain collection

Cereal grain Collect samples from one location. It is desirable to collect samples of a single species or a single kind. 

Sa. 11.166) Gorecki Peak, Schmidt HiUs. Medium grained, collected near the base of a 55-m-thick sill that intruded the Patuxent Formation. The diabase sill is located about 30 m below a rhyolite flow. 

Sc.11.1.66) Gorecki Peak, Schmidt HiUs. Coarse grained, collected 42 m above sample 18 from the same sill. 

Straining. This is the simplest of the collection mechanisms and occurs when the particle diameter is larger th the constriction through vdiich the fluid flow streamlines pass. The grain size plays an in ortant role in this mechanism as narrower passages are found with smaller grained collection media.

The raw ROM (run of mine) ore is reduced in size from boulders of up to 100 cm in diameter to about 0.5 cm using jaw cmshers as weU as cone, gyratory, or roU-type equipment. The cmshed product is further pulverized using rod mills and ball mills, bringing particle sizes to finer than about 65 mesh (230 p.m). These size reduction (qv) procedures are collectively known as comminution processes. Their primary objective is to generate mineral grains that are discrete and Hberated from one another (11). Liberation is essential for the exploitation of individual mineral properties in the separation process. At the same time, particles at such fine sizes can be more readily buoyed to the top of the flotation ceU by air bubbles that adhere to them. 

Phosphides. Zirconium forms several phosphides ZrP [39318-19-9] 2 [ 12037-80-8] and ZrP g [12066-61 -4]-, they are part of the Zr—P phase diagram (137). The solubiUty of phosphoms in zirconium metal is low, ca 50 ppm, and at higher concentrations it collects as separate globules at the metal grain boundaries. Analysis indicates that this material is Zr P. 

One hundred grains (0.7S mole) of -methylacetophenonc is added to a mixture of 250 ml. (4 moles) of concentrated nitric acid (sp. gr, 1.42) and 1 1. of water in a 3-1. flask, and the mixture is refluxed in a hood for 4 hours. After the mixture has been cooled, the sticky, yellow solid is collected on a 14-cm. Biichner funnel, pressed down well, and washed with 300 ml. of cold water. 

Three of the disadvantages of ESPs are as follows (1) the initial cost is the highest of any particulate collection system, (2) a large amount of space is required for the installation, and (3) ESPs are not suitable for combustible particles such as grain or wood dust. 

For these units the usual particle size for removal is greater than 2 microns with a loading rate of greater than 0.1 grains/cu ft, with a collection efficiency of 99% . The pressure drop is very low for a range of gas velocity through the unit of 100-600 fl/min [40].
