Grain alcohol, density

Ethyl alcohol (ethanol, freezing point -114.1°C, boiling point 78.3°C, density 0.7893, flashpoint 14°C) is also named, industrial alcohol, grain alcohol, and alcohol. Ethyl alcohol is miscible in all proportions with water or with ether. When ignited, ethyl alcohol burns in air with a pale blue, transparent flame, producing water and carbon dioxide. The vapor forms an explosive mixture with air and is used in some internal combustion engines under compression as a fuel such mixtures are frequently referred to as gasohol. [Pg.213]

Near room temperature, the density of water is 1.00 g/mL, and the density of ethanol (grain alcohol) is 0.789 g/mL. What volume of ethanol contains the same number of molecules as are present in 175 mL of H2O ... [Pg.87]

The density of ethanol, a colorless liquid that is commonly known as grain alcohol, is 0.798 g/mL. Calculate the mass of 17.4 mL of the liquid. [Pg.17]

EXERCISE 1.7 Ethanol (grain alcohol) has a density of 0.789 g/cm. What volume of ethanol must be poured into a graduated cylinder to equal 30.3 g ... [Pg.27]

Potassium Methylate. Potassium methoxide [865-33-8] KOCH, mol wt 70.13, is a fine, free-flowing, yellowish-white, caustic, hygroscopic powder purity 96.5—99% powder density after loose shaking, 0.75 g/mL apparent density (packing weight), 1.00 g/mL medium grain size, 0.05 —0.8 mm easily soluble in alcohols (33% in methanol at 20°C), insoluble in hydrocarbons. [Pg.26]

Malted barley provides the fermentable sugar in the beer and is arguably the most critical element in the recipe, because it affects the flavor, the density, the amount of alcohol, and the color of the beer. There are two options for the brewer malt extracts or mash. Most novice brewers use malt extracts, while advanced brewers tend to mash their own grains. [Pg.6]

A thin layer of the catalyst was deposited upon the surface of the sample holder by sedimentation from a coarse-grained suspension of the sample in isopropyl alcohol. XPS measurements are performed in a UHV analysis chamber equipped with a multichannel detection hemispherical analyzer and a dual Al/Mg X-ray source operated at a power of 150 W. A preparation chamber enabling ion sputtering at high Ar current densities is also available. [Pg.524]
