The scope of the Directive is very wide as the conduct of all CT in the European Union (EU) on human subjects involving medicinal products as defined in Article I of Directive 65/65/EEC will be covered. The term investigational medicinal product applies to whether it is either medicinal by function, or is presented as treating or preventing disease in human beings. In effect, every CT involving medicinal products will be covered, irrespective of who sponsors it, whether industry, Government, research council, charity, or university. [Pg.465]

Government and University Research. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) offers copies of ergonomic-related studies in downloadable files. This government-agency Web site contains links to many published research articles on various aspects of ergonomics. The landmark 1997 study about musculoskeletal disorders and workplace factors is one that is available to any business or individual. Others include the research of violence in the workplace and musculoskeletal pain with regard to nursing-home workers published in the journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine. This was the first study of the hazard of workplace violence as linked to work-related musculoskeletal disorders. The results showed that the incidence of musculoskeletal pain increased from 40 percent in those workers that were not assaulted to 70 percent in victims of workplace violence. [Pg.728]

Scholarly study of the issues in energy economics ranges from massive tomes to short articles. Government and international agencies, consulting fimis, indusUaal corporations, and U ade associations also produce a vast body of research in energy economics. [Pg.459]

In the following sections, major emphasis has been placed on recent literature, appearing in the years 1955-62. The term literature means those technical journals in which research or experimental conclusions are commonly published much excellent data, and many useful correlations and observations, are available only in theses, or in institutional, industrial, or government reports. Although reports of this type which contain unique results are included in the present discussion, a deliberate attempt has been made to give priority in discussion to those articles which have been most widely circulated and are therefore most readily available. [Pg.204]

Antonio Domenech-Carb6 (Valencia, 1953) holds a PhD in Chemistry (University of Valencia, 1989) and is currently a Professor in the Department of Analytical Chemistry of the University of Valencia (Spain). His research is focused on supramolecular electrochemistry, electrochemistry of porous nanostmctured materials, and electroanalytical methods applied to the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage, as well as educational problems in science teaching. He has published more than 150 articles in scientific journals and monographs. He was a recipient of the Demetrio Ribes award (Valencian Regional Government) in 2006. [Pg.159]

The enormous research activity devoted to metalloporphyrins, and in special, to the noble metal porphyrins is governed by the idea of biomimesis, i.e. the desire of chemists to understand and imitate nature with its ingenious biocatalytic pathways. In this respect, two important neighbouring disciplines to synthetic chemistry will be touched on in this article electrochemistry (Sect. 5.1) and catalysis (Sect. 5.2). However, in order to keep the article within certain limits, only some notes will be given on these fields, which sometimes are linked by the term electrocatalysis and bear some relevance to material science. This article examines some aspects of federal R D efforts in the biomass area. It raises two areas of question. One is whether the post-1980 changes in the way the federal government conducts biomass research has made the biomass R D effort more or less effective in achieving its stated goals. The observations are primarily directed toward the Department of Agriculture because the vast majority of its research is conducted in-house by permanent scientific staff. [Pg.6]
