Government regulation examples

Even between high-income countries, there are appreciable differences in prices of pharmaceutical products (Danzon and Furukawa 2003). Such differentials have led to some price arbitrage as occurs with parallel imports for example, manufacturers in Country A, with high retail prices for pharmaceutical products, exports to Country B these products with lower prices because of government regulation of the prices of such products or price discrimination, and Country B in turn exports to Country A but at the prices of Country B. 

SCHC is a professional society of individuals who are engaged in the business of hazard communication. The members have a broad range of occupations - chemistry, industrial hygiene, and toxicology are a few examples. Their jobs are also diverse. Many prepare labels and MSDSs for their employers products. Others train users of hazardous chemicals, act as expert witnesses, or implement government regulations. Good laboratory practices have been established by worldwide bodies such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Government agencies have adopted them for their purposes as rules that must be followed for laboratories involved in analyzing substances that require regulation. Examples are pharmaceutical formulations, foods, and environmentally important samples. 

Sulfur levels in gasoline and diesel fuels have been decreasing steely over the last several years, primarily in response to government regulations both in the U.S. and in Western Europe. For example, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency s (EPA) Tier 2 emission standards mandate sulfur level reduction from current 330 and 550 mg/kg sulfur in gasoline and diesel, respectively, to 30 and 15 mg/kg by 2006 and near zero by 2010 and later years [1-3]. Regulations in California are even more restrictive. Similarly, EN 590 European diesel specification mandates sulfur content of diesels from 350 mg/kg maximum in 2000 to 10 mg/kg maximum by January 1, 2005 in European Union countries.
