Goals intended

Our research goal intends to fill this void. It is based on an extensive survey conducted online, in 2011, by the French National Council of Scientists and Graduate Engineers (CNISF, called today lESF). Of the 39,000 survey respondents, 27,000 engineers answered to an optional part of the questionnaire, which we have designed, dealing with social, ethical and professional values. The data were analyzed with SPSS.

By the beginning of the nineteenth centui"y, Fulton turned his attention to his obsession with submarines and steamships. He made uo secret of his goal for submarines—he intended to build them in order to destroy all ships of war so that appropriate attention could be devoted by society to the fields of education, industry and free speech. The values given in Figure 4-84 are Intended to serve as a guide for the selection of Initial ton-mile values as explained in Par. "Service Goal." Obviously, for it to be worthwhile, the product must also do some good. Hence, the principle of efficacy or effectiveness has become another cornerstone in achieving the goal of regulation. To evaluate effectiveness you must also consider the purpose of the product as expressed in either an indications for use statement in the case of drugs, or intended use statement in the case of medical devices. As discussed in Section 1.6, and later in Sections 9.3 and 9.4, intended use statements are also vital in determining how some products are regulated in the first place, which in turn dictates the level of scrutiny to which they may be subjected. 

Demonstrating that an analytical procedure performs as intended is a GMP concem. 9.35-37,128-132 Jo this end, the employed equipment and the design of the method should be such that the intended goals can be met. The method validation delivers the formal proof that the outcome meets the expectations. 

Thus, to further the goals of quality and good analytical practice for which RMs are intended, EQA schemes should combine some aspects of both objectives according to the political purposes for which the scheme is being organized. Whether used for educational or licensing purposes, the ultimate intention is to ensure a certain standard of analysis is achieved and maintained in order that the user of results may be protected against errors which could be costly, in financial or human terms.

Differences in the relative proportion of f-PSA and PSA-ACT can affect the result obtained for t-PSA because of the differences in the nature of calibration and the molar response, sensitivity, and specificity of antibodies used in various immunoassays. The efficiency of these immunoassays has been evaluated by several investigators. Because the proportion of free and complexed PSA varies in benign and malignant diseases, these immunoassays measure one form or the other, giving rise to different results for different patient groups. It is very important that data from clinical studies support the proposed intended uses of these assays, since as many as 5 percent of men with a negative free PSA test (free PSA values >25 percent) will have cancer and not be recommended for biopsy. Therefore, a goal for standardization is to detect total and free PSA accurately in equimolar fractions. 

Figure 5-1 illustrates a method that will produce a system in which the parts fit together to accomplish the common goal of good control. Control valve share of total system flowing pressure drop will be 60% at normal flow. The system will still achieve maximum flow as long as the control valve trim selected can pass maximum flow at operating head loss (line 23 of Figure 5-1). The procedure described in Figure 5-1 is intended as a stand-alone device for guiding the calculations, and worksheets can be prepared from it.

The start of NASA s Kepler mission is planned for February 2009 and has goals similar to those of the COROT project, though rather more ambitiousiit is intended to determine the percentage of terrestrial and larger planets there are in or near the habitable zone of a wide variety of stars, and also to determine the distribution of sizes and shapes of the orbits of these planets.
