Developmental toxicity of nine selected compounds following prenatal exposure in the mouse napthalene, p-nitrophenol, sodium selenite, dimethyl phthalate, ethylenethiourea, and four glycol ether derivatives. Propionaldehyde. The derivatives of propionaldehyde are illustrated in Figure 6. Both n-propanol and propyl acetate have uses as solvents for gravure printing ink. Glycol ethers derived from n-propanol are also... [Pg.260]

Individual polyethylene glycol ether derivatives of long-chain alcohols are supplied as fine chemicals for scientific use. They can be separated, for example, by preparative column... [Pg.9]

Butanol is used to produce plasticizer-type esters like phthalates, phosphates, sebacates, oleates, and stearates. Two important ester derivatives, n-butyl acetate and n-butyl acrylate, used in the coating are produced from n-butanol. Glycol ether derivatives like ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (EB) used in the coating industry is the product of the n-butanol reaction with ethylene oxide in the presence of an acidic catalyst. Other important derivatives of n-butanol include butyl amines and butyl esters used as herbicides, butyl xanthate ore flotation aids, butylated urea, and melamine-formaldehyde resins. [Pg.90]

Butyl glycol ethers, the largest volume derivatives of -butyl alcohol used ia solvent appHcations (10), are obtained from the reaction of 1-butanol with ethylene oxide. The most important of these derivatives, 2-butoxyethanol, is used principally ia vinyl and acryHc paints as well as ia lacquers and varnishes. It is also employed ia aqueous cleaners to solubilize organic surfactants. 2-Butoxyethanol [111-76-2] has achieved some growth at the expense of the lower alkoxyethanols (ie, methoxy and ethoxyethanol) because of 2-butoxyethanol s lower toxicity. [Pg.358]

In an analogous manner, DCPD reacts with alcohols and phenols to form ether derivatives, and with halogen acids, thiocyanic acid, and various carboxyhc acids to form esters. These esters are used as perfume components (67). Dicyclopentadiene alcohol and a number of the ethers, esters, and glycol adducts have been claimed as coal and ore flotation aids (68). [Pg.435]

The best way to identify the MWs of unknown glycols and glycol ethers is to examine the mass spectra of the TMS derivatives. The TMS derivatives are identified in the chromatogram by plotting masses 73 and 147. The higher of the two high-mass peaks, which are 15 Daltons apart, is the molecular ion of the TMS derivative. If no peaks are separated by 15 Daltons, add 15 to the highest mass peak observed to deduce the MW. [Pg.80]

H-Propanol and ri-propyl acetate account for about 70% of the U.S. propionaldehyde derivative market. These compounds are used principally in flexographic and gravure inks which require volatile solvents to prevent smearing and ink accumulation on the printing presses. Some propanol is also converted into n-propylamines which aie important pesticide intermediates. -Propanol is also employed as a precursor for glycol ethers. [Pg.1187]

It is necessary to note the application of the ethoxide in the synthesis of GeH4 (on reaction with NaAlH4) [1804] and that of glycols and derivatives of diatomic phenols for the preparation of cyclic ethers [51, 796, 1123, 1183, 1404, 1486] and germocins [572]. Phenoxides are proposed as catalysts of terephtalate polycondensation [827]. The application of Ge(OEt)4 in the sol-gel discussed in Chapter9. [Pg.290]

With the exception of the blue copper phthalocyanine derivatives, these products are azo dyes that are soluble in polar solvents such as alcohols, glycols, esters, glycol ethers, and ketones. Dyes soluble in alcohols and esters are used in protective lacquers for the transparent coating of metal (aluminum) foils and other materials, such as wood (greening lacquers) in flexographic inks for the printing of metal foils, cellophane, and paper as well as for the coloration of cellulose esters, celluloid, and poly(vinyl acetates), and, in the office supplies sector, for... [Pg.295]
