Very few of the CP-channels described above have been purified, and the amino acid sequence is only known for the GABAA-receptor channel, the glycine-receptor channel and the Torpedo CP-channel [3-5], a CP-channel from skeletal muscle [125] and a CP-channel from MDCK cells [128]. In the following the current status will be briefly summarized. 

A very similar cloning strategy has been used for the 48-kDa subunit of the glycine-receptor channel by Betz and collaborators [4]. Strychnine was used as an affinity ligand, and synthetic oligopeptides were constructed from the purified material. They have been used to screen cDNA libraries.

Cucurbitacin B evokes chemosensory responses at levels as low as 0.1 uM, probably acting at a different modulatory site than do classical synaptic y-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glycine receptor-channel complexes. Chyb et al. [83] studied adult western com rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera, Coleoptera-Chrysomelidae) beetles and reported the possibility that there are peripheral chemosensory receptor sites that may resemble, both functionally and structurally, synaptic receptor sites in the CNS.

The GABAA-receptor and the glycine receptor are Cl-channels (Table 1). When they open at a resting membrane potential of about -60 mV, the consequence is an entry of Cl-, hyperpolarization and an inhibitory postsynaptic potential (DPSP Fig. 1).
