The FCGR2A gene contains a second polymorphic site. CA-to-GA mutation results in a glutamine or tryptophan at amino acid position 27 in the membrane distal Ig-like domain. However, this substitution does not affect the Fc RIIa affinity for IgG (5,6).

Each a chain contains potential glutamine acceptor sites at 221, 237, 328, and 366, and donor sites at lysine 508, 539, 556, 580, and 601 (Greenberg et al., 2003 Matsuka et al., 1996). The Tg(BoPrP)4125/fVw/>°/° mice were also susceptible to natural sheep scrapie deriving from Suffolk sheep in which susceptibility to scrapie is controlled by homozygosity for glutamine (Q) at the PrP codon 171 polymorphism (Hunter et al., 1997). Bovine PrP contains Q at the equivalent position in sheep PrP thus the ease of transmission of scrapie to Tg(BoPrP) may be due to the homology at this polymorphic residue implicated in susceptibility of sheep to scrapie.
