The UOP Sarex process has been used since 1978 for the separation of high purity fmctose from a mixture of fmctose, glucose, and polysaccharides (87,88). The pilot-plant performance of fmctose—glucose separation is given in Table 6. [Pg.300]

Strube et al. compared the performance of optimized batch and SMB chromatography [84]. For large scale fructose/glucose separation they found that the optimum batch productivity is 1.7 times higher than the optimized SMB productivity. On the other hand, the optimized solvent requirement is twice as high, which is important because the most important cost factor of this process is the price of the eluent. Thus, the specific separation cost for the fructose/glucose separation is much lower for the SMB than for the batch chromatography process. [Pg.935]

Invert sugar contains equivalent amount of glucose (d) and fructose (/), but since the fructose has a more powerful /-rotation, the mixture has an /-rotation. Only the glucose separates (e.g. from honey) by crystallisation, and it was long believed that the fructose did not crystallise crystals were first obtained by Jungfleisch and Lefranc. ... [Pg.822]
