Mixtures of naturally deposited sand, medium plasticity clay, and bentonite with recycled rubber produced composite materials suitable for use in ground improvement (Becker and Vrettos, 2011). Mechanical properties of soils relevant to the application of such composites in geotechnical engineering problems were investigated. The compaction, permeability, compressibility, and flexural and shear strength were determined for typical mixtures along swelling of the bentonite-mbber mixtures. [Pg.751]

The topic of data management is very broad, but in its application to both geosciences and geotechnical engineering, it basically involves three major components (1) deciding on what data to acquire and then developing the processes for retrieval of in situ laboratory... [Pg.87]

Maximum shear modulus of soil (G ) is the fundamental property of the soil in geotechnical earthquake engineering application. The most reliable methods to determine the maximum shear modulus of soil are those conducted in the field. This is because the laboratory soil testing of undisturbed soil samples is often subjected to errors due to sample disturbance. Evenifthe disturbance is minor in advanced technique of sampling, time and expense may be substantial. Hence in the present study shear wave velocity obtained from the cross hole test is utilized to compute the maximinn shear modulus of the soil using the formula discussed earlier. [Pg.24]
