Genetic transformation systems

Cyanobacteria are procaryotic photosynthetic microorganisms and can provide a simple genetic transformation system. In this study, we established an efficient vector-promoter system for the introduction and expression of foreign... [Pg.237]

Using the regeneration system of Dendrocalamus hamiltonii of our lab, we tried to establish a bamboo genetic transformation system. After pre-culture for 4 days, good calli were infected... [Pg.366]

One of the exciting features of the direct DNA delivery system is that it does not rely on an infection. The limited host range of other vector delivery systems is therefore irrelevant, and the way is opened for genetic engineering of cereals. Cereal protoplasts are equally amenable to uptake of foreign DNA after electroporation and the system therefore has potential for use with the major crop species. However, there is at present one drawback, namely that for cereals it has not yet proved possible to grow fertile whole plants from the genetically transformed cells. [Pg.139]

Self-assembling polynucleotide delivery system for genetic transformation and gene therapy. [F. C. Szoka, Jr., J. Haensler, PCTInt. Appl. 9319768 1993 Chem. Abstr. 120 184644] [ 399],... [Pg.247]

Chloramphenicol acetyltransferase is used as a genetic marker system to study transformation and gene expression in plant protoplasts, cells, and tissues. [Pg.405]

Microsomes prepared from maize (Zea mays) embryos or seedlings have proved to be an excellent biochemical system to study sterol bios)mthesis in vitro. The development of molecular genetics tools, the availability of specific Arabidopsis thaliana mutants and the possibilities to genetically transform these mutants allowed the application of a new strategy to study sterol biosynthesis pathways (Benveniste, 2004). Some important results of both approaches are summarized above (Figs 6.2 and 6.3). [Pg.311]

The successful expression of sulfothermophile genes in E. coli [43,128], in good yield, reinforces the universality of the genetic code and, together with the development of a potential vector/transformation system for Sulfolobus [129], provides a solid basis for investigating the genetics of these organisms. [Pg.553]
