Generic Hazard Group

List the nature of the condition (refer to Generic Hazard Group, If necessary). [Pg.66]

The Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) is an analysis of the generic hazard groups present in a system, their evaluation, and recommendations for control (TAI 1989). The PHA is usually the first attempt in the system safety process to identify and categorize hazards or potential hazards associated with the operation of a proposed system, process, or procedure. In many instances, however, the PHA may be preceded with the preparation of aPreliminary Hazard List (PHL). The identification of hazards on a PHL can occur through the use of a variety of methods such as but not limited to... [Pg.71]

In addition to the generic hazards indicated above, individual solvents may display toxic properties specific to that solvent or group of solvents. These specific hazards may arise from the toxic properties of the parent molecule or, more frequently, from the product of metabolism. A wide range of such effects can occur, affecting a variety of target organs. Some of the most common are described below. [Pg.88]

The term "hydrazines" is a generic name used in this document to describe a group of three structurally related chemicals hydrazine, 1,1-dimethylhydrazine, and 1,2-dimethylhydrazine. These three hydrazines were selected for inclusion in this document because they have been detected at hazardous waste sites and are of concern to the Department of Defense. Numerous other hydrazine derivatives exist as well. For example, the reader is referred to the Toxicological Profile for 1,2-Diphenylhydrazine (ATSDR 1990) for information on this chemical. [Pg.22]

Aromatic hydrocarbon solvents. In general terms, this group of solvents displays similar generic toxic properties to the aliphatics, although the aromatics are regarded as more toxic. Some of them have been the subject of solvent abuse and skin exposure can present a practical hazard. [Pg.90]

The Center for Chemical Process Safety is a part of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. One of its several publications is Guidelines For Hazard Evaluation Procedures, Second Edition With Worked Examples. The fact that this text was published by a chemically oriented group should not dissuade those who seek an education in the following evaluation techniques. Their descriptions are generic. [Pg.160]
