Generic enumerations

The enumeration process takes a generic structure and performs the substitutions defined by one or more of the R-groups to generate a number of more specific structures. 

The overlap between small libraries such as these could be determined by enumerating each and comparing the specific structures using the existing methods for exact match. Enumeration is prohibitive for interactive comparisons of larger libraries, so the generic structures themselves must be compared with each other [5],...

In this chapter, pharmaceutical and health-care products, such as prescription drugs, generic drugs, OTC products, animal health products, dietary supplements (vitamins and herbal drugs), and biotechnology-derived products, are discussed in relationship to the format of preformulation reports. Topics of the preformulation study are discussed in detail. Models for some of the reports are provided in the hope that the pharmaceutical development team will devise an individual report format based on particular needs and resources. Analytical techniques useful for preformulation and regulatory conformity or requirements relative to product registration processes are also enumerated. 

Enough groundwork on the generic nature of solubility behavior in SCF solvents has been developed in the previous chapters of this book for the reader to extrapolate from the idealized situation of separating a mixture of naphthalene and chalk dust to other, more practical systems. Other systems may include the extraction of oleoresins from spices where the desired product is the extract, or the extraction of monomers and oligomers from polymers where the desired product is the purified polymer, or the separation of a mixture of chemicals where both streams are valuable products. Many of these examples are enumerated in the following chapters.
