Gelatin commercial preparation

Silexan is a commercial preparation containing 80 mg of the essential oil of L. angustifolia in an immediate release soft gelatin capsule. It is authorized in Germany for the treatment of anxiety and accompanying restlessness states. A number of clinical trials have been performed. [Pg.393]

In the preparation of capsules, various colored empty gelatin capsule shells may be used to hold the powdered drug mixture. Many commercial capsules are prepared with capsule bodies of one color and a different colored capsule cap, resulting in a two-colored capsule. This makes certain commercial products even more readily identifiable than solid colored capsules. For powdered drugs, dispensed as such or compressed into tablets, a generally larger proportion of dye is required (about 0.1%) to achieve the desired hue than with liquid preparations. [Pg.393]

Foods are supplemented with vitamin A in the form of standardized preparations of synthetic fatty acyl esters, nowadays chiefly retinyl palmitate. The preparations are available commercially as either dilutions in high-quality vegetable oils containing added vitamin E as an antioxidant or as dry, stabilized beadlets in which the vitamin A is dispersed in a solid matrix of gelatin and sucrose or gum acacia and sucrose. The bioavailability of vitamin E from a self-emulsifying preparation was evaluated in comparison to a commercially available soybean oil solution in soft gelatin capsule. Vitamin E administered as a self-emulsifying preparation had markedly higher plasma levels compared to the oil solution formulation, and the extent of absorption was increased almost threefold.
