Among common radionuclide sources are the natural environment, fallout from nuclear weapon tests, effluents from nuclear research laboratories, the nuclear power fuel cycle, radiopharmaceutical development, manufacturing, and various application, teaching and research uses. Decontamination and decommissioning activities at former nuclear facilities and the potential of terrorist radionuclide uses are current topics of interest for radioanalytical chemistry laboratories. Simplified information on the numerous radionuclides is conveniently found in Charts of the Nuclides such as Nuclides and Isotopes (revised by J. R. Parrington, H. D. Knox, S. L. Breneman, E. M. Baum, and F. Feiner, 15th Edition, 1996, distributed by GE Nuclear Energy). [Pg.8]

Uniaxial (tension and compression) and equibiaxial tests of rubber specimens have been performed at ENEL for both a rather hard rubber compound used in the U.S. Advanced Liquid Metal Reactor (ALMR) Project (shear modulus G = 1.4 MPa) and new medium hardness (G = 0.8 MPa) and soft (G = 0.4 MPa) compounds. Tests concerning tiie ALMR rubber have been carried out in the framework of a co-operation with GE Nuclear Energy. [Pg.139]

BWRs have reported significant SCC indications when visual and ultrasonic examinations were performed in accordance with GE Nuclear Energy recommendations contained in numerous GENE SILs. Cracks in core shrouds were discussed in RICSIL 054, dated October 3, 1990 [6.37], RICSIL 054 Revision I, dated July 21, 1993 [6.38], SIL 572 Revision 1, dated October 4, 1993 [6.23], and RICSIL 068 Revision 1, dated April 14, 1994 [6.39] and NRC NUREG-1544, Status Report Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking of BWR Core Shrouds and Other Internal Components, March 1996 [6.40]. [Pg.84]

Chemical effects of nuclear decay have been studied in Germanium through the use of Ge and Ge. Ge decays to Ga with a 275 day half-life by 100% electron capture with no y quanta emitted. Ge is a P emitter which decays to As with a 11.3 h half-life, by three jS transitions having maximum energies of 710 keV (23%), 1379 keV (35%) and 2196 keV (42%). From this are calculated maximum recoil energies of 1.7 eV, 4.5 eV and 10.2 eV, respectively. [Pg.86]

In the literature [55], typical energies involved in the nuclear quadrupole moments -crystalline electric field gradient interactions range up to A E 2x 10-25 J. The measured AE seems to confirm the hypothesis that the excess specific heat of the metallized wafer is due to boron doping of the Ge lattice. [Pg.302]

The concentration of silver nanoparticles and ions in solntions was determined by neutron activation analysis [15]. Samples were irradiated in the nuclear reactor at the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The product of nuclear reaction ° Ag(n,y)" Ag has the half-life Tj j=253 days. The silver concentration was determined by measnring the intensity of gamma radiation with the energy of 0.657 MeV and 0.884 MeV emitted by "" Ag. A Ge(Li) detector with a resolution of about 1.9 keV at 1.33 MeV and a 6,144-channel analyzer were used for recording gamma-ray quanta. [Pg.171]
