Gastric disorders

Dofetilide is not administered with cimetidine because dofetilide plasma levels may be increased by as much as 50%. When treatment for gastric disorders is necessary, patients receiving dofetilide should take omeprazole ranitidine, or antacids as an alternative to cimetidine. [Pg.373]

The proton pump inhibitors are used for treatment or symptomatic relief of various gastric disorders, including gastric and duodenal ulcers, GERD, or pathological hypersecretory conditions. Painful, persistent heartburn 2 or more days a week may indicate acid reflux disease which can erode the delicate lining of the esophagus,... [Pg.476]

Histamine H3 receptors are well distributed in peripheral tissues, although relatively less abundant than in the CNS. As for the cellular localization, peripheral H3 receptors are present in different cell types, like the neural, paracrine, endocrine, muscular and endothelial cells, where they subserve a predominant inhibitory role. However, the multiple location of H3 receptors in the same tissue may lead to opposite effects on the physiologic function, thus, their role can sometimes be quite difficult to understand. As regards a possible clinical application of H3 ligands, although many suggestions have been derived from the experimental animal data (e.g. gastric disorders, asthma, myocardial ischemia, hypertension and inflammation), to date, no clinical evidence is available for any therapeutic indication. [Pg.99]

Gastrointestinal signs and symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency occur in 26% of cases. These include sore tongue, stomatitis, mucosal ulceration, appetite loss, flatulence, and constipation or diarrhea. Appetite loss, excess gas, and diarrhea are probably related to the underlying gastric disorder (i.e., gastric atrophy) in pernicious anemia. Gastrointestinal symptoms may occur in the absence of symptomatic anemia or macrocytosis. [Pg.344]

Some time ago we determined total dissolved mucin and its fractions during fasting and after alcohol test meals, histamine injection, and i.v. insulin in gastric juices of 60 patients with peptic ulcer and 106 controls with various gastric disorders (G30), In each of the 841 gastric specimens, the total dissolved mucin and its two fractions (mucoprotein and... [Pg.266]

Tetracyclines have many effects on non-infective inflammatory processes (SEDA-24, 278). They have been tried, and claimed to be of some value, in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, periodontal disease, myocardial infections, gastric disorders, and experimentally in the treatment of cancers. In all of these disorders, the proposed mechanisms for effects are on the host rather than the microbial side. [Pg.3330]

The reason for the relatively wide use of Cannabis in England by many of the British practitioners was probably due to the availability of Indian resin. In Europe, although known, its medicinal use was marginal. There are several reports from France on the successful use of Cannabis as oxytocic as well as on ocular pain and inflammation and in rheumatic pain [31-33]. Reports from Germany indicated its use as a hypnotic and in gastric disorders [34, 35]. It was found also to relieve vomiting and was said to be a true sedative of the stomach without causing any of the inconveniences experienced after the administration of opium, chloral or the bromides. [Pg.164]

The safety limit between selenium, as an important micronutrient in human diet, and the appearance of toxic symptoms is quite small. The main symptoms from the uptake of an increased selenium quantity are dermatitis, vertigo, fragile nails, gastric disorders, hair loss, and garlic odor during breathing. [Pg.432]
