Several other variants of basic ganglioside structures have been reported. Glucosamine-containing gangliosides have been detected since the very early studies (reviewed by Martensson, 1969). The structures of four of these gangliosides have been elucidated recently (Li et al., 1973 Wiegandt, 1973, 1974).
