Antimonide, gallium

Metallic Antimonides. Numerous binary compounds of antimony with metallic elements are known. The most important of these are indium antimonide [1312-41 -0] InSb, gallium antimonide [12064-03-8] GaSb, and aluminum antimonide [25152-52-7] AlSb, which find extensive use as semiconductors. The alkali metal antimonides, such as lithium antimonide [12057-30-6] and sodium antimonide [12058-86-5] do not consist of simple ions. Rather, there is appreciable covalent bonding between the alkali metal and the Sb as well as between pairs of Na atoms. These compounds are useful for the preparation of organoantimony compounds, such as trimethylstibine [594-10-5] (CH2)2Sb, by reaction with an organohalogen compound. [Pg.202]

The experimental values of the specific heat are available only for some A B compounds. Kochetkova and Rezukhina [20] carried out calorimetric measurements of the specific heat of gallium antimonide between 20 and 700TK. Ibe calorimetric method was also used by Nachtrieb and Clement [21] to find the specific heat of gallium antimonide in the temperature range 293-500 K. The temperature dependences of the specific heats of some A B semi-conductii compounds were deduced by Piesbergen [19] from the characteristic Debye temperatures. The lack of information on other compounds presents difficulties in the calculations of the thermo chemical constants. [Pg.127]

Pressure transducers based on the semiconductor materials on the basis of germanium, gallium antimonide, solid solutions of aluminum, and gallium arsenide have come into use lately. This type of pressure transducer, given in Figure 3.5, is sensitive to bulk compression and is characterised by low electric resistance, high sensitivity to pressure, and linear dependence of the electric resistance upon the pressure. Nonlinearity less than 1.5% is observed in the range up to 1000 bar. [Pg.76]
