Gagging

The NFS shear successfully processed irradiated LWR fuel between 1966 and 1972. Among the lessons learned were that the chute that channeled sheared fuel pieces to the dissolver basket was susceptible to bridging, the gag drives required a disproportionate amount of maintenance, and insufficient throat clearance led to jamming of chopped fuel. 

Removal of Refractory Organics. Ozone reacts slowly or insignificantly with certain micropoUutants in some source waters such as carbon tetrachloride, trichlorethylene (TCE), and perchlorethylene (PCE), as well as in chlorinated waters, ie, ttihalomethanes, THMs (eg, chloroform and bromoform), and haloacetic acids (HAAs) (eg, trichloroacetic acid). Some removal of these compounds occurs in the ozone contactor as a result of volatilization (115). Air-stripping in a packed column is effective for removing some THMs, but not CHBr. THMs can be adsorbed on granular activated carbon (GAG) but the adsorption efficiency is low.

The ratio to z depends only on (gag-, zjx, = 2/3 tga.g, and the ratio of x, /Xq has a constant value equal to 0.578. To clarify the trajectory equation of inclined jets for the cases of air supply through different types of nozzles and grills, a series of experiments were conducted. The trajectory coordinates were defined as the points where the mean values of the temperatures and velocities reached their maximum in the vertical cross-sections of the jet. It is important to mention that, in such experiments, one meets with a number of problems, such as deformation of temperature and velocity profiles and fluctuation of the air jet trajectory, which reduce the accuracy in the results. The mean value of the coefficient E obtained from experimental data (Fig. 7.25) is 0.47 0.06. Thus the trajectory of the nonisothermal jet supplied through different types of outlets can be calculated from... 

Pumps can overheat if they run with the delivery valve almost closed. In one incident a pump designed to deliver 10 tons/hr was required to deliver only 14 ton/hr. The delivery valve was gagged, the pump got too hot, the casing joint sprang, and the contents leaked out and caught fire. 

Myristic acid may be linked via an amide bond to the a-amino group of the N-terminal glycine residue of selected proteins (Figure 9.18). The reaction is referred to as A -myristoylation and is catalyzed by myristoyl—CoAtprolein N-myris-toyltransferase, known simply as NMT. A -Myristoyl-anchored proteins include the catalytic subunit of cAMP-dependent protein kinase, the ppSff tyrosine kinase, the phosphatase known as calcineurin B, the a-subunit of G proteins (involved in GTP-dependent transmembrane signaling events), and the gag proteins of certain retroviruses, including the FHV-l virus that causes AIDS.
