Conidiophores pale brown, erect, usually with distinct scars, and sympodial in development. Conidia one celled, fusiform to obovate, pale brown, with a dark basal scar. [Pg.61]

Colonies of R. aquaspersa are rapid growing, velvety, slightly elevated, and olive black. The conidiophores are sympodial, usually darker than the vegetative hyphae, unbranched, and erect. Conidia are one celled, rarely two celled, fusiform, elliptical or obovate, smooth, light brown, and with a dark basal scar. Annellides like those of Exophiala spp. and phialides like those of Wangiella spp. may be present. [Pg.79]

Panax ginseng is a perennial plant, growing 30-80 cm high. It has a round stem and bears terminal whorls of 5-8 palmate leaves (Gruenwald et al. 1998). The flowers have greenish-yellow corollas and grow in 1-3 umbels of 15-30 flowers. The fruit are red, pea-sized, and round. The rhizome is fusiform and is the principal part for medicinal interest. [Pg.180]

In the case of visual hallucinations, similar studies have shown that these are correlated with activity in the occipital lobes (Ffytche et al., 1998). The localisation of activity was associated with the specific phenomenological characteristics of the hallucination for example hallucinations of unfamiliar faces were found by Kanwisher et al. (1997) to be accompanied by increased activity in the left middle fusiform gyrus, an area related to unfamiliar face stimuli. As with auditory hallucinations, increased activity in the affected area preceded the onset of the hallucination. [Pg.199]

The later observation of Morita and Shibata (19) is relevant here. They examined the distribution of the various arsenic compounds in Hizikia fusiforme (this alga is unusual in that it contains about 50% of its total arsenic as arsenate). The total arsenic concentrations were higher at the surface layers than in the center of the alga. Arsenate... [Pg.175]

Typical mature roots have different shapes (conical, conical-cylindrical, cylindrical, fusiform) and different sizes (3 to 15 centimeters in diameter), depending on variety, age and growth conditions. The color of the outer peel varies from white to dark brown. The cross-section of cassava roots shows the two major components which are the peel and the central pith (Figure 12.1). The peel is composed of the outer layer (called the periderm) and the inner layer (called the cortical region or cortex), which contains sclerenchyma, cortical parenchyma and phloem tissue. The large central pith of the roots is the starch-reserve flesh, comprised of cambium and parenchyma tissue and xylem vessels. [Pg.542]

Atherosclerosis mainly affects large- and mediumsized arteries. Extracranial manifestations at the carotid bifurcation statistically dominate the intracranial arteries. Besides typical manifestations at the carotid siphon or the vertebrobasilar junction, atherosclerosis is occasionally also found in peripheral intracranial vessel segments. Typical sequelae of atherosclerosis are stenosing plaque formations, ulcerations, dilatations or the evolution of fusiform aneurysms, which can be accompanied by extensive formation of thrombus. [Pg.87]

Fig. 5.20a-d. Subacute thrombus formation in a large fusiforme aneurysm of the basilar artery. Parts of the thrombus are still isoin-tense to brain, while others are moderately hyperintense on spin echo Tl-weighted image (a). Residual flow within the vessel is outlined against thrombus much better on post-contrast Tl-weighted spin echo (c) and post-contrast TOF-MRA (d) than on unenhanced TOF-MRA (b)... [Pg.91]
