Fungi cancer causing

All plant diseases result from the invasion of plant tissue by microscopic organisms. These can be fungi, bacteria, or viruses. Taking their nourishment from the plant tissue as parasites, they cause cell damage and death, and sometimes distortions of growth rather like tumors or cancers. 

Liver tumors have been directly attributed to exposure to some toxicants. Androgens (associated with male sex hormones), aflatoxins (from fungi, see Chapter 19), arsenic, and thorium dioxide (administered as a suspension to many patients between 1920 and 1950 as a radioactive contrast agent for diagnostic purposes) are known to cause liver cancer. 

Several species of fungi have been reported to contain hyaluronidases [200-202]. However, without extensive characterization, and in the absence of sequence data, it is difficult to evaluate these enzymes. There is no evidence that fungi contain HA, nor that they are able to uptake this GAG. The hyaluronidases may, however, be virulence factors for these organisms, similar to their function in some bacteria. Considering that opportunistic infections caused by Candida and other fungal organisms are on the increase with the use of wide-spectrum antibiotics, anti-cancer... 

The term pesticide includes chemicals used to eradicate rodents (rodenticides), fungi (fungicides), weeds (herbicides) and insects (insecticides). These agrochemicals may be used directly on the medicinal plant crop itself, they may be used on crops growing adjacent to the herbs or they may occur as general environmental pollutants in soil, air or water. The presence of insecticide residues is of particular concern because those of the organochlorine type (DDT etc.) have been shown to cause cancers in animals and those of the organophosphate and carbamate types are potent cholinesterase inhibitors. 

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the causative ij agent of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). AIDS is a lethal condition because HIV destroys the body s immune system, rendering it defenseless against disease-causing organisms (e.g., bacteria, protozoa, and fungi, as well as other viruses) in addition to some forms of cancer. 

In a brief book by former well-known herbalist and author Hanna Kroeger of Boulder, Colorado, titled Free Your Body of Tumors and Cysts, it was stated that tumors are caused by fungi as well as viruses. Among those caused by fungi she lists hard tumors, a tumor formed by the fungus maduromycates as found in India, and prostate cancer. As for the kinds caused by viruses, she lists the following four virus classifications papilloma and papilloma combined with Epstein-Barr, Epstein-Barr with herpes, herpes with another virus, and retroviruses. 

Soon after the discoveries of X-rays and radioactivity it was learned that radiation could cause changes in matter. In 1901 P. Curie found that when a radium source was placed on his skin, woimds were produced that were difficult to heal. In 1902 skin cancer was shown to be caused by the radioactivity from radium but S years later it was learnt that radium therapy could be used to heal the disease. Large radiation doses were found to kill fungi and microorganisms and produce mutations in plants.
