Functional group analysis 850 INDEX

Organic Analysis is an annual series of collective volumes edited by J. Mitchell (Interscience, 1953-) which surveys current methods and describes new procedures for the direct analysis of organic systems arranged by functional groups. The index is cumulative and there are extensive bibliographies. A selection of recommended procedures is given in each article and much information is supplied in the form of tables. [Pg.155]

The concentration of the polymer molecules eluting from SEC columns is continuously monitored by a detector. The most widely used detector in SEC is the differential reftactometer (DRI), which measures the difference in refractive index between solvent and solute. Other detectors commonly used for SEC are functional group detectors ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR), and absolute molecular weight detectors low angle laser light scattering (LALLS) and in-line continuous viscometers. Applications of these detectors to SEC analysis will be discussed later in the Multiple Detectors Section. Other detectors also being used are the densimeter (11-19) and the mass detector (20-23). [Pg.5]

Products Index (CPI) database. To aid in reducing the size of a hit list, a Reagent Selector user can filter reagents and sort on properties, availability, presence or absence of functional groups, etc. (Fig. 9.18). Further list reduction can be achieved by clustering the structures by means of a cluster analysis using substructure keys as descriptors. [Pg.392]

We have shown that the intrinsic electronic contribution to the Hammett substituent constant, cre(o>), may be obtained from a statistical analysis that follows from the comparison of the experimental <7p values and the electronic electrophilicity index co evaluated for isolated molecules.127 The analysis was performed for the electrophilicity of a series of substituted ethylenes, X-CH=CH2, and the crp values reported by Hansch et al.12S for a wide list of functional groups (FG), X-, commonly present in organic compounds. [Pg.183]

Boyd et al. developed the HookSpace Index as a measure of the orientational diversity between pairs of common functional groups in a database of compounds. Analysis of the Cambridge Structural Database of crystallographic structures showed that the HookSpace Index for pairs of functional groups was highly correlated with the number of occurrences of those pairs of groups. [Pg.95]

This chapter has discussed the analysis of reactors for step-growth polymerization assuming the equal reactivity hypothesis to be valid. Polymerization involves an infinite set of elementary reactions under the assumption of this hypothesis, the polymerization can be equivalently represented by the reaction of functional groups. The analysis of a batch (or tubular) reactor shows that the polymer formed in the reactor cannot have a polydispersity index (PDI) greater than 2. However, the PDI can be increased beyond this value if the polymer is recycled or if an HCSTR is used for polymerization. A comparison of the kinetic model with experimental data shows that the deviation between the two exists because of (1) several side reactions that must be accounted for, (2) chain-length-dependent reactivity, (3) unequal reactivity of various functional groups, or (4) comphca-tions caused by mass transfer effects. [Pg.174]
