The efficiency of total synthesis should then benefit to the growing research efforts in chemical biology and drug discovery in the future, in connection with recently designed strategies like diversity-oriented synthesis (DOS) and function-oriented synthesis (FOS). [Pg.15]

Structural type. Diversity-oriented synthesis is a new strategy for constructing libraries with both skeletal and functional group diversity. [Pg.169]

Multicomponent reactions (MCRs) are one-pot processes combining three or more substrates simultaneously [1], MCR processes are of great interest, not only because of their atom economy but also for their application in diversity-oriented synthesis and in preparing libraries for the screening of functional molecules. Catalytic asymmetric multicomponent processes are particularly valuable but demanding and only a few examples have been realized so far. Here we provide an overview of this exciting and rapidly growing area. [Pg.277]

The development of synthetic methods is a very important branch of natural product synthesis, and complex target-oriented synthesis. The new chemical methods that are developed by chemists simplify the process of synthesis. This simplification generally leads to a shorter number of steps in the synthesis and therefore a more efficient synthesis. New synthetic methods are usually developed with simple substrates which highlight the main functional group transformation. These methods can be difficult to be transferred to a more complex molecule therefore, it is important that a new synthetic method demonstrates the scope and limitation of the method. [Pg.52]

In the late 1990s, the group led by Schreiber introduced the concept of diversity-oriented synthesis (DOS) [18-20] into the field of organic chemistry. In combination with the split-pool synthesis [21,22] and tagging strategies [23,24], DOS allowed chemists to prepare large collections of structurally diverse small molecules. The library compounds are usually prepared on polymeric beads, and thus each compound contains a common functional group that mediates covalent attachment to the solid surface. [Pg.60]

The classical function-oriented automation concept forfeits efficiency the instant a diversity of process and products are targeted. On the other hand, by centralizing automation, i.e., by devolving automation tasks away from the periphery to a powerful central robot, highly variable processes can be tackled, e.g., in combinatorial synthesis. One feature of these so-called sample-oriented systems is that the pipetting function is centralized. [Pg.551]
