A general method for the preparation of a-cyano ketones from acid halides was developed recently (equation 43).i57.i58 trimethylsilyl cyanide as reagent a great number of acyl cyanides can be prepared under mild conditions in high yield. In particular the synthetically useful aliphatic derivatives have become accessible by this reaction. Table 13 lists examples for aliphatic, a, -unsaturated and benzylic acyl cyanides. The procedure is very simple in that trimethylsilyl cyanide and acid chloride are mixed and kept without solvent. The reaction is followed by IR spectroscopy. As soon as all of the trimethylsilyl cyanide is consumed, the product can be isolated, normally by distillation, or directly used for fruther reactions. [Pg.317]

N,N-disubstituted acid amides RC(=0)NR2 can be prepared from acid halides (or anhydrides) and an amine R2NH. This may often require the preparation of carboxylic acids and of the corresponding acid halides. One may prefer, however, a simple route, involving conversion of the cheap, commercially available (carcino-genous) dimethylcarbamoyl chloride with an organometallic derivative [47] ... [Pg.32]

Nelson s group induced the formation of c/s-p-lactones using the combination of alkaloids (O-TMS-QD or O-TMS-Q) and a mild Lewis acid (LiCl04) starting from acid halides and aliphatic aldehydes (acid chloride-aldehyde cyclocondensation, AAC) ensuring high enantio- and diastereoselectivity (Scheme 15.11). Their studies were then expanded to chiral aldehyde... [Pg.50]

Lactones from Acid Halides, Acetylene and Carbon Monoxide... [Pg.170]

Lactones are formed from acid halides, acetylene and CO under the same reaction conditions which are applied to allyl halides described in the previous chapter. Ketones may serve as solvents [799, 800]. [Pg.170]

In a recent paper Cassar et, aL [801] reported the formation of unsaturated s-lactones of the type below from acid halides, Ni(CO)4 and acetylene at low concentrations of carbon monoxide. [Pg.171]
